I believe you can add some spices to embossing powder to make some wonderfully aromatic cards. That would be just a "sniff" card... no scratching required!
yes there are voice recorders. check your local scrapbook store. i searched online, but didn't turn up anything, although I know I've seen people talk about them here. Worst case, you can buy a card like that from Hallmark maybe and pull the recorder out and put in your card. (Saw one online at Overstock.com for $6.99)
You can do scratch and sniff cards by adding some jello powder to your embossing powder. A solid image will obviously smell the best, but if you wanted to have more for the person to feel an intricate line image would still probably work. Cuttlebug embossing folders for the cardstock would be great too, consider satin or velvet ribbon, shaped brads. You don't really have to worry about colour coordination so much but making it the most texturaly (is that a word?) diverse.
Consider doing a long or large square card to give yourself more surface area to work with and also try blindfolding yourself and feeling the different embellishments to get a better idea of the experience you want to give the recipient.
Cornish Heritage Farms sells scented EP...chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and cherry. I bet a huge silk flower...button, would be well received. I've also seen recorders somewhere in a scrapbooking section (Walmart maybe?) that you can use to record your greeting.

I have a folder/die combination from Cuttlebug for a maple leaf that is about two and a half inches. The embossing is even on the edge so you can feel the outline of the leaf. I'd be happy to make some up and mail them to you if you would like to do a fall card. Just PM me with your address if you want them. SARGE
