How many stamp sets are too many??? I keep buying and buying but never hardly use them. I am a compulsive stamp buyer and love them to pieces but the problem is I am running out of storage space. Is there some type of 50 step program for this addiction? I just can't bare the thought of getting rid of any because one day I just may need that stamp set that I got rid of and may never be able to find it again.
I was buying a LOT of stamps that I wasn't using, so now, I'm just more careful about my choices when I buy. My 2 questions are "will I use it," and "can I use it for a variety of things." That has helped me reduce my spending, and my impulsiveness. I will leave new ones out on my table too, as a reminder to make something with them. I've learned that just because it's cute doesn't mean I will use it. My mom buys a lot too, so I can always borrow from her if there's a one time thing I need.
Having a lot on hand is good too so if you do need that one time/one of a kind thing, it is there for you at your convenience.
Just make a rule that before you buy a new set you have to make a card or something with one of your uninked sets. Check out some of the challenges here on the board.
I keep having an addiction to stamps that *I* love...but then I don't have any stamps to make cards for my hubby, or dad, or someone who doesn't like dogs and/or flowers.
But...when I consider selling off some sets, I decide if I LOVE it or not. If not, when it comes to making a card I probably wouldn't pick that set anyhow...so I let it go. If I have a set or two worth more than average, and I only love it for one or two images in it, I stamp the image a dozen times and sell the set. That way I have it to use, as well as money to spend on new stuff!

My thought is never enough stamps, which has me now unmounting my retired sets that I will not sell and any non SU that I buy now is unmounted if at all possible. I guess I have this rainy day mentality(or snowy day since we are heading into winter). I figure if I get snowed in I will have a great selection to choose from.

Too Many - pulease.... I have close to 4,000 stamps and I still see ones that I want. Like others, I am much more selective about what I buy and I'm not real crazy about selling some. I don't think I'll ever have too many
Yep I consider myself a collector. I have about 700 SU sets and then my other non SU stamps. I have my order coming for my new sets so that number will increase, again.
Well, another buyer not user here too! I don't think you can really have too many stamps, but I do try to use most of them sometime. Maybe not this year, but maybe next year? Sometimes whe have good intentions and they go out of style before we can use them?
I am trying to be more selective in what I buy now and really thinking about if I will relly use it or is it just *cute*. This really applies when I go through the SU catalog!
Then add all the other wonderful stamp companies out there and WOW - overload, you want them all and it is so hard to have any control!

You asked for a 50 step program, I don't have one of those. I have heard of a 12 step program however: Never be more than 12 steps from your stamping supplies.
Sometimes I think my real hobby isn't stamping - but collecting! It is an addiction.
not stamps but slightly related: I bought some round Heidi Swapp chipboard letter last week and it actually says on the "circles are totally it. These yummy colours and versitile font make them fun to use and collect."
That is how I feel! I love them all, it would be like getting rid of one of my kids!
There are times I would rather get rid of one of my kids instead of a stamp set LOL
I started being a stamp collector, then realized when I moved recently that I needed to start using the stamps that I have and only get sets that I will really use, especially sets to make cards for the males in my life. I do keep telling DH that the amount of stamps sets could be more, I have only 75 SU sets compared to some here who have thousands of set, I can only dream of having that many.
I think our addiction can get out of hand, and sometimes I wonder if we make ourselves feel better by enabling others.
Not that I don't spend too much on this, because I do, but I don't see it ever ending... KWIM? Will I ever have enough? So, then, should I really have any?
Just two cents (two very unpopular cents, really...)
I don't generally buy sets any more. I buy singles here and there to fill in any "gaps" of types of stamps I don't have. I try to buy unmounteds because they are cheaper and take up less space.
Hi!
I was a collector for a very long time and I do have a huge collection of stamps (over 6,000 individual images). I had to unmount all my stamps because I had run out of storage room. I made the choice to stop purchasing and start using. That worked out really well stamp wise, then I realized I was short on paper. Solved that problem too, LOL!!! I've hit a balance and I shop less (which does help with the finances) and stamp more, which means I'm having more fun. I really do enjoy using what I have now so all those years collecting has paid off.
Find a balance that works for you and enjoy stamping. That's more important than how much you have or don't have. If you're having fun, being creative and sharing, nothing else matters.
I agree with Cathy H. I am a collector...I have over 600 SU sets..plus a few HUNDRED sets of TAC...that doesnt include the single stamps and PaperTrey plus a few other sets of Hero arts...I dont want to part with a single one..and NO I do not have enough stamps...lol
Blessings.
Ooh! You Ladies Rock. It is amazing. I am not alone!!!! I have been collecting too and it is very compulsive. So, I am trying to come up with new techniques using my existing stamp sets and supply, but the compulsion to buy is too strong. Now with SU's online ordering, I keep browsing adding items to the cart and then not buying it. lol.
If space is the only issue, then just unmount all your sets! You'll have 3x the space and you can buy MORE! LOL!
Thankyou to the ladies who posted they have 600-700 SU SETS, my DH will now leave me alone for a very long time because I have less than 25 sets! He's gonna fall down when I tell him!
Well I have to agree with bh_dallas, the compulsion to buy is just TOO STRONG especially when you go to Hobby Lobby today and they have their stamps 50% off and you buy like 8 of them!!! I guess my DH will just have to listen to me for once and do what I say, buy me a bigger house!!!!! That is the only solution cause the stamps aint goin!!!!

Well what are you doing on here chatting!!! You have some major shopping to do!!!
I guess if you run out of money you can figure you have too many (snicker).
Seriously, I have more sets than I ever thought I would when I got into this hobby. In fact, I resisted learning to stamp for the simple reason that I know I go way overboard with my hobbies. And, of course, I did go overboard.
That said, I have a loving husband who lets me buy all the sets I can hide in my stamp room.
Well, I'm not alone then. I am so happy there is a lady that has 4000 stamps. WOW! I thought I had a problem with my close to 350 SU! sets plus all kinds of other companies out there. WOW! 4000 I'm still in shock. So I have to say, what really got me out of collecting and really using my stamps is the daily challenges here. I do it daily and I feel good that at least I make a card everyday and use my stamps. WOW! 4000 Can I come play?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy smokes, where do you ladies store all of these? Wow! I guess you have craft rooms or stamp rooms, right - lucky ducks! Thassalotta stamps! Playdates? Can we come over!

I do have a stamp room but that is the problem, I am running out of room!!! Oh well, looks like I will have to clean out a closet! Sure come on over, I would stamp more if I had company!

I think there's some sense in your two cents!
I had to laugh about the "50 Step" program. Yes, for regular addictions - 12 steps. For papercrafting, it takes fifty!

Sadly, that's what I figured. It would have to have at least 50! But I don't think I would join. They would just want me to part with my beloved stamps and I won't do it!!! (stomping my feet on the floor)
