Default Paper that looks like birch bark

I have a weird request. I am looking for paper that looks like birch bark. My cousin is getting married with a nature/winter theme. I am making the invites and would like to incorporate the birch bark look somehow. I have real birch bark but it is next to impossible to work with - all curled up, brittle, etc. I tried to peel the "paper" off but then lose the white birch look.

Help!

Is there a way for you to photocopy or photograph the birch bark you have and print it onto cardstock suitable for the invitations?

great idea Tina, I would add-since it does curl and crack naturally, I would distress the edges (with brown maybe) and curl them

So is yours, Diane!

To the OP: I'd love to see what you come up with - always looking for new inspiration (and I always find it here!)

Here is one...
Birch bark 12x12 paper. It seems to be a photo of a group of trees.

Something else...
Amate Paper. It is made in Mexico by pounding fibers from fig and mulberry trees. The lighter "natural" color might work for you.

The first is certainly more convenient and the second site has been added to my bookmarks - I had to force myself to stop looking!

Yes ... that's when I made myslef stop looking 'coz I was thisclose to shopping and all my (very limited) craft budget has been allocated for the Heirloom stamp convention this weekend (in Rhinebeck, NY).

I love paper samples and will get some asap.

Have you tried soaking the bark to soften it so it will lay flat. I learned that in basket weaving. Oh the things I took in college to get out of art!

Default birch bark

could you use any of a variety of handmade papers and add some ink distressing to provide color/shape?????? I'm thinking Mulberry paper but that is because it is the only kind I've had experience with.

I tried soaking it but it curls back up when dry. Good idea though!

I like this paper but it looked to much like a photograph instead of the real thing. Thanks for looking though!
