Default Cuttlebug compatibility w/ new SU / Sizzix Bigz die?

I totally heart the sizzix die that is the little bag that SU just revealed. I don't know if it is an SU exclusive or not, but I LOVE it! I have a cuttlebug and I saw on the flyer that I would need the extender pads for this die since it a Bigz XL die or something like that. Will this die work in my bug? I am hoping so - I am definitely not buying another new tool right now

Thanks!

i think most of them will work in the bug. i think that there are some WIDER dies that won't, but i think most of them will work with the bug.

Yes, the xl dies work with the cuttlebug, but the cutting pads do not. I know that a stamping store locally has found a way to "cut" the sizzix cutting pad to work with the cuttlebug.

Has anyone tried to use the long thin plates from that you use for the sizzix borders? I'm not sure if this will work but you could place two side by side on the bottom and two for the top plate.

I am with you... I have the old Sizzix machine and the Cuttlebug and will not buy another tool that is very expensive. Please let me know if you find out more about it.

I am getting ready to put in an order for a catalog party and need to know something about the Top Note Bigz Die (the big curvy rectangle similar in style to the new curvy label punch). Will this die fit width-wise in the Cuttlebug? I am able to make all the thick red Sizzix dies work in the Bug, so I'm wondering if this Top Note die is similar in size. Has anyone tried this particular die in their Cuttlebug?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

P.S. The short story is that all the dies will fit; it is the pads that do not, so you have to improvise

I have had no problem using the Bigz XL dies in my bug. I use the regular bug "B"
plate on the bottom of the sandwich and then the decorative strip cutting pads side by side on the top of the sandwich. It works beautifully. Just be ready to feed the second bug "B" plate into the sandwich as the whole thing rolls into the machine. Definitely check the Indigo Inklings blog, thats how I found out.

Hmmm, I wonder......

Could use use a planer to shave off enough of the XL plates to make them fit in the Cuddlebug? Has anyone tried this???

Default You sure could!

A planer which can handle plexiglass would do a great job of cutting down the oversidze plates.

I have access to a hardware store which has such a planer. They cut plexiglass for customers and would be willing to cut the plates, if I ask nicely. I'm sure you may find one near you, too.

Be sure to ask them to grind the edges so that they aren't sharp.

I've got the solution !!!! it is soooo simple !
I just bought the sizzix entended plates. and I used a saw to get rid of a few milimeters of width . so, I made the plates a slightly bit smaller. now they are as thin as B plates, as wide as b plates, and ... twice as long as b plates.
it works GREAT !!!!

JUST USE a saw and get rid of a small line of plastic, make them as wide as a b plate.

Can the top note die itself be trimmed or cut down enough to fit through the original red sizzix machine???
thanks - sorry if this is a repeat...

The Top Note die is the same size as regular Sissix Bigz dies, which were made for the original Sissix machine, so you shouldn't need to trim it down to fit.

I don't know if this would work or not, but, the B plates for the bug seem to be either plexiglass or lexan. Both materials are sold at places like home depot and they will cut it to size for you. That way the plate would be the correct size.
If someone tries it let us all know..

I have been using 2 b plates on the top taped together with clear packing tape and 2 b plates the same way on the bottom. The die fits in between the sandwich and goes through fine.

Jane on the DieCutsAll yahoo group recommended this possible solution:

I cannot believe I didn't think to try this earlier. Smacking my hand to my forehead.

Anyways, if you have a yen for cutting those long dies but don't want to cut in more than one pass, you can sub out your B plates for Accucut commercial 5" x 15" mats. Okay, so they aren't as wide as the die, but guess what? The actual designs on the dies usually fit within this 5" wide area. And the length is longer than any personal die on the market at this time.

These are the plates:

http://www.accucut.com/Cutting_Plast...ath1,904.html?

The Accucut cutting plastic mats are the same thickness as the Cuttlebug B mats.

Remember--this would be out of warranty and at your own risk should you attempt this solution. I just happened to have the mats handy because I have a commercial machine..... I have not tried it with the new lavender mats, so I can't help you there. $6 for a pair plus shipping of about $8--and there is stuff you could buy to CUT (not the dies, unless you own a commercial machine, too.)--such as heavy acetate or chipboard if you want to stretch your shipping dollars (it's the same amount until you buy $115 worth of stuff).

Neato!!!!! I bet with those long plates and 2 A plates put in end to end underneath that it would work in the Bug! Thanks for sharing the idea.

So just want to make sure as I read all the posting but I am not sure I understand it.

Does the overall thickness of plates A + B + B (to cut using a small die or decorative die) is the exact same thickness as using the equivalent plates in big shot plates so the spacer platform + 2 cutting plates.

Thanks to let me know

I've been looking at getting an xl bigz die too, but wanted to figure out how it would work in the cuttlebug first. So the sandwich for using the bigz dies is B plate + Die + B plate? Just wanted to make sure. Sounds like buying the extended cutting plates would be the best way to go and just sand them to fit. Thanks for the help!

I have a BUG and the XL dies. I bought the cutting pads which are too wide but my DH scored a line on them with a scribe to a width just slightly smaller than the opening on the bug and then used a belt sander to sand down to the scribed line. It works PERFECTLY and I am really pleased with it.

Hi is it the Bigz XL Scoreboard dies as well or just the Bigz XL dies that can be used in the CB. Would the new CB 6x13 B mats that are out be better than placing two standard b plates together? or is this just a waste of money.

Thanks

However I would think that you would only need the B plates which comes with two, for the Sizzix bigz xl dies to use in the cuttlebug

I have the extended cutting pads... I also have a set from SU that my hubby MacGuyver'd to the right size for me with a sander. They all work lovely. I have the spacer as well because of some of the longer dies that CB has as well as some of the longer sizzix dies that are sizzlits depth. You can use the extended platform from Sizzix for that along with the B plates designed for that or just use the larger CB B plates that have come out. I got the SU ones from Sizzix and had hubby shave them down because CB didin't have anything available. Also have the Tim Holtz base tray coming, it's on order at my LSS. Can't wait to get it!!!!!!

Smile Cuttlebug B plates

I just wanted to add that you can now buy the extended B plates 12" for the Cuttlebug. I bought the set and I am now able to cut and emboss spellbinders borders with it. No need to run it through the machine twice. I'm looking forward to trying the Bigz shot dies in it.

I just bought the extended B plates (12"). I use it with my spellbinders borderbilities. It works great for cutting and embossing. I use my tan pads side by side.
