Default It has taken this long to finally admit.....

that I do not have the creative juices/endurance to come up with elaborate cards.
1) I do not have the time to put more than 30 mins. towards making a card for someone.
2) I do not like having to take more than 30 mins. to make a card - not because I do not care enough for the person, but I plain and simply lose interest and then it turns into " ugh, I just need to get this done" - no fun!
3) I do not have the ability to "case" someone elses' beautiful card layout if I do not have the exact same materials and supplies that that person used. My innovations just do not come out "right".

I say all of this to FINALLY say - I am ready to see some really simple yet elegant and beautiful cards that can be created with any stamp set.
The following ingredients will do nicely
1 - piece of printed paper
1- stamp set/ stamp (which I will take the time to color in nicely with prismacolor, watercolors etc.)
1 - piece of colored cardstock
1- piece of textured cardstock - (for my cuttlebug embossing, nestabilities die cuts etc.)
1- piece of plain paper to make the card base

Does anyone else feel a little like this? Are you into the short, sweet, and simple look?

Yes, although I admire the embellished & layered to the hilt look, I rarely make those kinds of cards myself. I often make quick & simple cards.

My cards have the clean and simple look but it's normally taken me 'quite a while' to put it together! I procrastinate too much - would this DP/layout/stamp/colour look better than my first idea? Most of the time, NO! I must learn to go with the flow, it's only paper after all

I think the planning of a card is the most time consuming, because your not sure of the outcome. This not being a visual until accomplished can be disappointing. Now, I check the gallery here with the stamp sets I have, print out and case ideas I like, and it goes much better. The cased printouts go into the stamp set box to use to help my creative juices, especially when pressed for time. It was the planning that zapped my energy and found it to be the most consuming of my time

most cards seen in gallery, can be substituted with another stamp set, that is similar. Another suggestion, if you are looking for simple-not sure about elegant- try doing a search on this gallery for OSW- or one sheet wonder, you can add elegance to them There is enough inspriation on this site
to inspire us, but you may need to keep them in "your favorites"
because our short term memory forgets

Default I'LL SECOND THAT!!

If you've checked my meager gallery, you'll see very simple cards. And they took me a while to design. It would take me forever to come up with a more elaborate card design. I need a quicker sense of satisfaction!!

Most of my cards are pretty simple. I like them that way and don't have any desire to change.

I am just about as simple as they come!

I LOVE the elaborate, layered cards in the gallery but I don't have the patience for that either. I also don't have the patience for complicated techniques. I've tried it and it always looks like poop!

My gallery is not huge ... and most everything in it is pretty darn simple!

I love to search on "CAS" in the gallery to see all the great Clean And Simple stuff here on SCS!

I came out of the closet on Friday. I'm the same exact way. I can appreciate all the artistic talent that I see here, but it's just not me. I'm a simple, stamp, color, layer, embellish (very sparingly) and send kind of girl.

I'm learning to embrace who I am and JulieHRR blog has been amazing for me. Her stuff is nothing short of amazing but still simple like I'm drawn to.

Take a look at her blog if you haven't already. It's awesome!

Default simple is best...

I was looking at a blog today of a well known stamper and I thought that what they were doing just didn't appeal to me at all. It looked as though her embellishment drawer had thrown up on her card. Ribbon! Rhinestones! Layers! More layers! More layers! Brads! Patterned paper! Flowers!Stamps! Sentiment! Too much! Well, I should say, too much for me. That style must be popular though - it sells!

I definitley noticed the same thing lately. I'm not sure what makes a card clean and simple, but I know most of the cards I created lately have been pretty simple. You can see them either in my gallery here or on my blog (links ine for both are in my signature line.)

I can't afford to MAIL the elaborate cards! I already sold off my hardware kit and I think all my large brads are next. I was looking through the Current scrapbooking catalog yesterday and found so much that the post office would say, "uh-uh - too thick, too bumpy" - TOO MUCH! I like simple and quick, anyway. I change the look of things around now with decorative papers - they're thinner than cardstock, too!

Do you know what else makes really cute simple cards? Punch sets that match the stamps are super quick and easy. Stampin' UP! has a scallop square punch with scalloped square stamps that fit inside. Stamp, punch, layer once and maybe add a tied ribbon... not even a bow! They have scalloped circle punches with matching stamps. I'm teaching some brand new stampers and they fell in love with the quick easy style. I had one lady insist she was just coming to watch the others because she is not creative at all. Well, after one class she came back to get a punch and matching set. After two classes she is on the hunt for more and said she is absolutely loving it! If I get some done this weekend I'll upload pics. My daughter just took all my extra cards home with her.

I am guessing the majority of stampers on SCS like to do the simpler cards more...just check galleries, and you can see that those really gorgeous elaborate cards do get MANY compliments/comments, however I have noticed that the simple/easier cards actually get favorited more. Just because no one makes a comment, doesn't mean it's not great...I take it as more of a compliment if someone likes it enough to try to CASE it, or just something from it.

This is also why I invested in a Cuttlebug recently. I just cannot believe how easy it is to emboss a piece of cardstock and yet that piece of cardstock just makes the card pop! I'm also investing in the Nesties because I just think it's a simple way to add some zing to my cards. I also like to color, but give me clean simple images every time. While I think cards made with the Thomas Kincaid stamps are beautiful, coloring images like that just overwhelms me.

Another thing about me - and this is not a reflection on anyone else who does things differently, this is only about the cards I make - I feel like my cards look "naked" without some ribbon, so I use it. But I almost never put more than one type of ribbon on a card, then it looks too busy. And while I like the "layered" look on cards, I get overwhelmed when I try to work with more than three colors.

Diane - I am right there with you! Granted, I can "case"... err "participate" in the Featured Stamper challenge faily quickly - but those cards never go in the mail. I make lots (and lots) of cards to give to friends, and I don't want to have to admit they might have to spend more on stamps. I have really been gravitating to DP as well - because of the weight (and thickness).
