I could see where he would be going in the hole, but certainly not getting rich.

I really do think that he and Tracy are doing this as a labor of love, but I also think they should be getting something out of it instead of always putting into it out of their own pocket. I will continue to be a fan and a member of this site.

I think they should be getting something for all the work they do! I could live with them getting rich. This site has certainly enRICHed my life (does that sound too sad?)

I would also like to see the others like Jenn, Beate et al be compensated for their hard work too!

I cannot imagine all of the work that goes into keeping this site up and running!! And, um, no, I do not think he's getting rich off this site. That's almost laughable.

My roomate in collage had a small server which she paid something crazy like $60 a month to have, she had to pay for the www-name and she had to pay for extra space when she ran out- if one person's site was that much imagine a site that holds 55,000!!! NOT cheap!

I think Daven is a genious for what he has created here for us! In fact, I think he's as much a genious as the person who invented a pacifier!! (Sorry, that's the mommy of WHINY kids coming out of me)

They should so get something for all that they have GIVEN us!
Just my opinion, though!

Actually I think the fee is rather cheap for all you get. I think it is a brilliant way to earn money to compensate Daven and keep the site going. Consider what you pay for a craft magazine subscription a year. This site has new ideas and information every single day on demand. No magazine can offer that!

I know of other web site designers, who have far less of a following, who have been able to quit their day jobs and focus solely on their site thanks to merchandise and subscription fees. I think that Daven and Tracey deserve to make something off of this site, although I know that they don't!

I am still hoping he can quit his day job and make SCS a full time job! Can you imagine how cool that would be for us!!! He would have more time than he could stand working on this site!!!!!

Ok. Here's my thought.

Noltas have created a product.

Product was given away to gain a following. And a following it gained.

Some people even voluntarily paid for the product. What? People are willing to pay for good service, a good product, nice people, etc etc. YES!!!

Noltas et al spend an inordinate amount of VOLUNTEER time working on this product. Uh, hmmm...this is a problem. What about capitalism? Isn't that the american way?? Yes again.

I don't see how anyone can deny these people that work day and night on this site the RIGHT as an American to make money here.

MHO....

Daven and Tracy, and all the rest of the moderators have created such a wonderful site here for all of us to enjoy! They certainly should be compensated and richly, too! They've already given so much to the stamping community, its time for them to reap some rewards. So in addition to joining the Fan club, don't forget to keep clicking on those ads. Every little bit helps. Love you guys and a big huge thanks for all you do!

I my opinion...if Daven was looking to get rich...he would find a way that did not put up with us "whiny" women... Krista, maybe we need some pacifiers...

In my opinion, anyone that comes up with such a brilliant idea as SCS is and can find folks to help support it (Tracy, Beate, Jenn, Britta, DD Girls, other mods ..... ) should be making enough $$ to not have to work full time ! We should all appreciate that it's all been FREE to us until this point. Thanks again SCS Team !!!!

Default Can't quack anymore....

I guess I didn't read the answers fully before I answered the poll. I answered, "Not getting rich, it's a labor of love." Then when I was able to put the others in context, I would now answer:

NO! But they should be!!! like most of the other responders.

I SO know that many of you share my same opinions on this issue, but I had to just "quack" (hi camsmom!) my way away from the computer last night when I was reading the forum answers to opinions about the gallery for the paid. EECCKKKK! Was I ever disappointed in the complaints.

I especially took offense to the comments that said they would be willing to pay "if" SCS would cater to other companies, offer tiered levels of access, give away a FREE small account that held limited uploads, etc....

Here is the deal (this is only what I have pieced together because I don't know the Noltas or any of the moderators on a personal basis):

1) Daven created the site so that Tracy would have a way to help her STAMPIN' UP! downline and sidelines that she cared about. She wanted it to be a place where artistic, as well as, business ideas could be shared without being moderated by Stampin' UP!, the company while still maintaining the high standard of integrity that Stampin' UP! has worked so hard to build.

2) Daven puts the website together because he believes in Tracy and her committment to grow her business by helping other gals do the same thing. (And, if he is anything like my DH, he wanted to prove to her he could do it!)

3) THEY ARE KIND ENOUGH TO SHARE IT ON PUBLIC ACCESS!!!!! Yes, Tracy and her group do benefit from the ideas and art shared here, but I can't imagine how much money this thing cost them to get off the ground and build to this point.

4) The site explodes because of the wonderful, wonderful folks that come here and post and upload and comment and support each other.

5) The Noltas have for the past year made public statements every time they are going to do an upgrade and respond to OUR complaints of slow moving traffic. They have made some comments about ways to support financially every now and then thru the SCS store or the DDD forum or Amazon.com, but they have exhausted all of their options.

6) Now a *very few* folks want to squawk really loud about what they should be getting for their money if they choose to subscribe to Daven and Tracy's website for HER STAMPIN' UP! business. I say to those few, this site has improved the quality of my artwork tremdously, and it has really helped me be a better business minded demo. If I can pay a little bit to help defer the cost for them, I will gladly do it. I am embarrassed to say that I probably waste $25 a WEEK on things of no lasting value. An SCS membership is a no-brainer.

I guess I am in the camp of wishing the site was paid membership only. I haven't been able to "browse" the gallery at leisure for several months. Then when I do get a chance to log on to the gallery, I get frustrated...

I haven't noticed too many comments from the DDD or people close to the Noltas, and I'll bet that is because they are so irritated with the comments of a few people that they choose to stay quiet and graceful.

Signing off,
Grateful for the Noltas & Excited for October 1st!!!

P.S. Just for the record, I wish this site would help the Noltas pad their retirement, send their kids to college and have a nice nest egg to fall back on...among other pleasures in life. I am sure they are like the majority of us....working hard to make a better way for their family.

I about fell out of my chair just reading the title! Umm... yeah... that's why they each drive a 2006 Porshe and have a multi-million dollar home...

Of course I don't think they are getting rich off this site. I would be more likely to believe they are GOING IN DEBT because of SCS.

But I WISH they each drove a 2006 Porshe and had a multi-million dollar home! They SO DESERVE IT. (P.S. If you ever do get that rich, can I move in?!)

Let's think of it this way...when we go out to buy something, and evaluate its value, do we get overly concerned about whether the manufacturer is/should be making money by selling it? Or do we concentrate more on what the value is to us and how much we're willing to pay for what we're getting? If I buy a bottle of water for $1.00, do I think about how much money the bottler must be making since water is essentially free and the container costs about $.05 (total guess here)? Or do I think to myself, "I'm thirsty. That water would really hit the spot and I think it's worth $1.00."? KWIM? In a capitalistic economy, people can make whatever their good idea will allow. So I don't care how much D & T make from this site as long as I'm getting $24.95 worth of value per year. And I do! C'mon, let's put the Noltas on the Forbes list...and we can say we "knew them when"!

I can't think of anything I have purchased in the last few years that has cost me SO LITTLE and that I have enjoyed more. I can't imagine not having Splitcoast to come home to every night ... and yes I do sneak on at work once in awhile.
I am all for those who run this site to make a good living and they can charge what ever they want. I'll pay it! They deserve it for all their hard work.
Splitcoast has become an important part of my life. I will be renewing my membership in a few months, and I know I will be getting my moneys worth once again. Keep up the good work!

God, I can't believe three people voted for the first option. :o

I voted for the third. I seriously think that Daven and Tracey have helped us for free for long enough and it is now time for us all to give something back. If that makes them rich, then good!

In the other thread where Daven asked our opinion about the gallery only being open to the fan club, I said I was worried about the heart of the site, but the more I have thought about it, the more I think that the heart will remain, because this site is all about the love and joy we share with each other and surely it is time that we show our love and support to Daven and Tracey and if donating will make their lives easier, then I'm glad I did my tiny little bit and will happily give more.

There are always going to be those with the welfare (gimme, gimme, gimme - for free of course) mentality. I'm willing to work for (or pay for) everything I get. And I believe that everyone should be rewarded for their work. I hope this site brings in a million or more bucks!

To call us suckers is way to much, who truely cares if they are getting rich? Do you think that people do a job just to do it, we want paid. They are providing me with a service that I want and am willing to pay for so it does seem like a win/win to me.

I voted the 3rd option, MamaK you should have made this a public poll, I am really curious as to who really thinks they are getting rich off of this. Give me a break!

Perfectly said!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, #1 option was worded nastily and sarcastically. I do not know if anyone is getting rich now (I have no idea how many are actually a fan club member), but come on, let's not be naive. 10,000 x $24.95 alone is $249,500. You KNOW more than that will join to have this GREAT service. Let's be honest here, $24.95 (of course I like $20 per person much better) per person willl go way further than just providing a smooth running service; it will provide someone with a very tidy income. So, do I think they should get rich off of SCS? ABSOLUTELY! This was their brain child and they can do what-ever-the-heck they like with their site and we can choose whether to stay or not! It has always been said that it is the brains and not the back breakers that make the bucks. Trust me, we are farmers and work 7 days a week, 365 days a year and you would just fall over dead to see what we raise 6 kids on! Not much brains here, obviously, but enough to know a money maker when I see one, BUT ALL FOR IT! Go for it babe!

Default Should they be rich? ABSOLUTELY!

I have only been on SCS a little over a month. It wasn't the gallery or the forum that got me here, it was the tutorials!! I spent days just going thru all the tutorials, found the forum and even more info, support and resources, and then there is a gallery of incredible ideas too? WOW!!! I immediately signed up for the fan club - just because all the info, support and resources was worth it! The DDD gallery wasn't the reason for me - for me, if I am getting something this valuable, I will pay for it! And I did, and I will continue to! (in fact, haven't even checked out the DDD gallery yet! still having too much fun in the tutorials and challenge threads!)

Daven & Tracy & all others involved with this site definitely deserve to get PAID! 55,000 members! Oh Ya! PAY THEM BIG TIME!
