Ok Ladies..I have been around here quite a while but I have yet to figure out this whole Tile thing. I have a craft fair coming up in two weeks and as I was looking here for ideas I came across the tiles. They are really cute, but I am wondering what you use them for...My idea for the fair is this:
1. Kid Christmas cards using Crayon Christmas
2. Gift boxes with matching candles (like the ones in the gallery here)
3. Stamped canvas bags
4. Sets of all occasion cards (packaged by event-sympathy, get well, etc)
This will be my first fair and I am excited about it, but I want to have some awesome stuff..your thoughts? :?

I'm doing a craft show at the end of the month, and I'm doing two things with tiles: I'm making coaster sets, tied with with a ribbon & tag and I'm using the 2x2 tiles for magnets, another member told me those sold really well for her!

Hmmm...ok those tiles look nice. I hadn't thought of the magnet idea. :shock: That would be a great idea for breast cancer magnets and things like that-cool! I was thinking maybe coasters, so I will go with that idea, too. I assume I would go to Lowe's or Home Depot to find these, right? I have decided to take the day off and try to work on this stuff. :P

I have better luck finding the tumbled tiles at Lowes rather then Home Depot. Also, if anyone has a better way of getting off the glue that holds those 2x2 tiles together, please share. I'm getting sick of scraping and sanding!

Your tile is very nice! But I have a question as well - when you seal them do they still soak up the "sweat" from your glasses if you use as coaster??
Do you know - when you make a trivet - do you seal them the same way - if so would the heat from the pan not take that right off????
I have several tiles just waiting to be used and have not done it yet since I do not have the answers to these questions! BUT I am going to do several for Christmas gifts this year!

I have not yet purchased the tiles for those but I think they will be on my list for next time I go to Lowe's!!

I'm the exact opposite. I've never found a decent tile at Lowes but have a wonderful collection of them from HD. HD's are much whiter where as (at least around here) Lowes' were brown. It was terrible. But at HD I was able to find smooth white ones that were great. I would imagine it's all about your personal HD verses Lowes. Where I am Lowes is so big and there are so many stores they just don't care since there's only one HD.
Ok...I just came back from Hobby Lobby, Home Depot, and Scrap It (local scrapping store) and I have in my possesion 4 of the shiny tiles, a thing of blue Stazon (no one had black), and some little feet for the coasters. NOW WHAT? I guess I will just stamp something on them and heat them, eh? Do any of you know whether I can get the tiles cut down a little more or do I have the wrong tiles? They are slick and shiny like tile flooring but they are larger than what I would think a coaster needs to be...I think they are like 4 by 4-isn't that too large? I will try one and post it... :shock:

Years ago I used the shiny because that is all there was. There wasn't even Staz-on. I remember I would have to emboss the tile. One slight move and it was blurring. But, they worked and my student's parents loved them. You can still use them, just be very careful not to move the stamp. It slips easily.
I've been buying my tiles froma warehouse here called, the Tile Club. I have found awesome tumbled tiles. They are limestone ones. They hold the chalk so well. They are running me about .25 cents for a 4x4. The ones that I bought from Lowes don't hold the chalk like these. I still use them, but they aren't my favorite.
Well, I stamped two using the A Beautiful Season set and they would be cute if I had the brown stazon for the moose image and if the tile were smaller. I am going to go to Lowes and see if I can do better there. They just don't look as cute as I want them to Lets put it this way-I wouldn't buy them if someone was selling them and I think thats what I am going for here. i want to have things that people are going to want. I will be so disappointed if I don't sell stuff. To me there is nothing worse than taking home what you brought cause no one else wanted it.

Keva ~ ask for Bocchocia (I think that's the name) or UNfinished tiles. If I ask for tumbled tiles at my HD, they wouldn't have a clue. Lowes truly didn't have a clue. They are in the back of the aisle near the the 2x2 tiles that are hooked together. Generally they are on a bottom shelf. There is a post, I'll see if I can find it, where I gave the UPC # for the tiles at HD. Good luck and I'll go look for that number.
In general unfinished tiles come in boxes of 9 for $5.95. The box has a square cut out of the front and it says "Approx 1 Square Foot" on the box. It's a white cardboard box, that's it. You can open them up and go through them to get the pick of the litter. It's the best way to do it. I just pulled my box, it say 4 x 4 Bottichino Sq Ft ~ they came from Home Depot and work wonders (see my gallery). Maybe if you specifically ask for Bottichino tiles it will help.
I was close on the name That's the very specific because I pulled that right off the box.
I got mine at Lowe's but they were sold individually for like 33 or 44 cents each?? I have not yet used them but I think they will be fine......

I used the shiny 2x2 magnets to make magnets. I got them at Lowe's in a sheet of 6x6. I think that they are intended for bathroom floors. I used Stazon to stamp. Just use a steady hand.

I bought my Bottacino tiles from Menards, they were cheaper than the ones I was getting at a floor tile store and in better shape. Menards also had a sheet of small ones for magnets that baked nicely and sell well at craft fairs. I have sold many " get it and go" gift bags for $12, I stamp the bag, make a topper and gift card to match, add tissue paper and a candle
Inkylady-I simple cut the glue connections between the 2 x 2 tiles to separate them, and then I cut them again scraping along the tile to get a clean edge. It works great. I use an old pair of craft scissors that were put up on the shelf after I had bought a pair of the SU craft scissors. I do however use the glossy 2 x 2s, and only the tumbled tiles for 4 x 4s so maybe there is a difference.
Brownee- Best of luck in your craft fair. I am doing my first craft fair at the end of this month too! I am doing coasters, magnet tiles and Christmas decorations with the 2 x 2s(just glueing a ribbon loop in the top to hang it), Domino pins and Christmas decorations, the polyshrink bracelets, cards individually, composition books with matching pen, beaded pens, bookmarks, and I have made one domino tray. Probably too much assortment, but it will give people a selection to choose from.

OMG ~ Where????? The tumbled tile sheets here are expensive. Like $10-12 for a sheet the same size as the bright white tiles.
I found stop sign shaped bright white ones. Haven't done anything with them, but as always, had to buy them.

They were at Lowes. The first ones I saw were $12, but then I discovered those were actually marble. I looked a little further down the aisle and found the cheaper ones. They had white & off-white. I'm loving them, and the price is great! I haven't gotten around to posting mine yet, but Sheryl (rsdreyer) was the one who told me where to find them, here's a link to the ones she did:

Very cool!! I must have been looking at the marble ones too. Those were way too much to just stamp on unless I was going to do a craft fair or something and sell them. I'll have to drop by Lowes after work on the way home. Thanks again for the info.
