I just had the funniest / oddest trip to my LSS today. I had a birthday coupon so I thought I would go in and see if they had some of the cool trendy stuff I have seen on SCS lately. I am roaming around and the store lady comes up and asks if she can help me find anything. I say that I am looking for a just rite monogram set but I don't know if they have them in stores. She asks what it is and decide they don't have it but gives me some options. I say no problem, it is just something I saw on an online card making forum. This customer says "On Splictcoast?" I say "Yes" thinking cool, SCS people are nice. Well, then she says "I used to go to that site and post my cards and read but I got tired of all the people just commenting on my cards saying I was great so I quit." The store lady and I both looked puzzled. I said, "Well, that is not a huge problem for me. Most of my cards don't get comments." She says "Wow, you must be horrible if you don't even get pity comment." The store lady ducked behind a rack giggling, I sort of smirked and said "Excuse me?" She said "Only really bad cards don't get anything and, don't give me that line about 'I only post for me and don't care about comments.' That is for losers." The scrapbook store lady was all out laughing behind the rack. I just started to smile because I was stunned and honestly a little amused that this lady had no filter on what she was saying. The customer drifted off and I shopped some more. When I got up to check out, the store lady gave me a discount on some of the stuff. I asked if it was on sale. She smiled and said she would call it a "pity discount."
I left the store smiling and uttered a little prayer for the bitter, former, SCSer. I have never heard the term pity comment before, but it cracked me up. I guess my lack of pity comments pays since I got a pity discount. I hope all of you have non-pitiful days!
Holy Cow! I can't believe that happened! First let me say what a nice thing the lady working there did for you. I guess in the balancing scales of life, someone like that keeps the other side from tipping too far.
But really, does this other customer have an over-stimulated ego or what? And the rudeness of her....
You handled yourself so well! Pat yourself on the back for that one and for the record, your work is lovely! If you have children, may they have learned how to behave properly from dear, old mom!
What an awful woman! At least you guys were able to just laugh her off...that can be so difficult sometimes.

I am just sitting here, shaking my head. Too bad we don't know who she was, we could go give her stuff some really bad comments and try to lure her back!! NOT.
It amazes what some people say! I am a pharmacist and I get A LOT of "I'd like to speak to the man pharmacist" or "that little girl doesn't know what shes doing" ........ I want to look at people and say "what on earth made you think that it is acceptable to say things things like to people?" You were much nicer than I would have been!
That is funny! I can't believe she said that! And why the heck does she leave SCS because people comment that her cards are great...I'm really not seeing a problem with that, lol.

you have much class for handling it the way you did! that's how i'd like to THINK i'd handle a situation like that, but i know myself way too well, and i would not have had the control to take the high road like you did.

....That is soo not true. Does she even know how many cards there are to be looked at gees? Just because there isnt a comment doesnt mean a thing. HOW rude. I am sure yours are just fine.

oh, my goodness! I must admit, I would have been too sensitive in this case, I am glad you were able to appreciate the humor and then come share it with us! That is really terrible, and really funny, too! As for me, I am happy with any comment I get, and it is sad that she thought so poorly of her own work that people telling her she was great made her think they were pitying her--sheesh!

I probably would have answered back in a normal tone "You DO realize how rude you sound, don't you? Just as well you don't visit SCS anymore."
Bwahahaha! I wonder if Micheals, Hobby Lobby, Joannes and the big chains do pity discounts! Whoo! Hoo! I can see working all kinds of angles here..
Look at how pitiful it is that I have gained all this weight!! That is worth at least 50% off!! How would you like to have gained this much weight? (only works with a skinny check out clerk!) Giggle!

It is really pitiful that I am not very good at stamping techniques....these items are for a special technique. Since my project will probably end up being pretty pitiful, could I please have your largest pity discount? I can bring it in for your inspection when I am done.....
