I remember reading a thread about cleaning clear stamps. I just got my 1st set in the mail...anxiously awaiting more. In the meantime, if I want to use Staz-On ink (black) with these clear stamps, is the SU stamp scrubber all I need to clean them? Did I read somewhere that the Staz-On ink is not good for clear acrylic stamps?
I've heard some say that Staz-On is not good for your stamps and some say it is ok, so I'm not really sure. If you use it I would be sure to clean it off the stamps right away. I use the Ultra Clean stamp cleaner (not sure if that's the correct name for it). It's the one Gina K sells in her store.
You can use any cleaner that works for you. Just be sure to clean the stamp right away. After cleaning and as an additional precaution, wipe the stamp with a baby wipe to remove any residue of cleaner no matter what cleaner you use.
Clear stamps can be put under running water to also clean off the cleaning residue. Dry throughly.
By the way.....baby wipes should be alcohol free, unscented and no lotion.
I use this procedure each time I stamp and have never had a problem with any of my stamps at all.
The most important thing to remember is to clean your stamps right after stamping so that all ink can be removed before it stains.
Different inks do stamp differently on rubber than clear stamps.
Again.....These are my opinions. Other people may differ.
Just remember that even when using a good cleaner, there will be some staining with clear stamps -- but it wont affect using them again -- but they will be easier to find!
I've used Stazon ink with my clear stamps and haven't had a problem... just don't use the stazon cleaner. The stazon ink will permentantly stain the stamps, but in my opinion that just makes them easier to find!

I use my Staz-On Cleaner with my MOUNTED stamps, and then if there is still colour on them, I use the Ultra Clean- that is the best, no holds barred. I couldn't believe how well it worked the first time I used it. Now I save it for badly stained stamps. I just ordered 2 more bottles from Gina R- thank you, Tracy-Stamper.
One of my brothers (who is a retired teacher) gave me a bunch of his old stamps that he used on his students papers and essays. He had NEVER cleaned any of them, and they were pretty disgusting, so I used the Staz-on, then the Ultra Clean. They aren't in PRISTINE condition, mind you, but they look so much better, and I don't shudder when I use them now. hahaha
One thing I DO do, is after I have used the stamp cleaner (s) I use an old toothbrush with a little dishsoap and gently, GENTLY I said, scrub them and rinse them off, drain them on paper towels and let them air dry.
I have been stamping (seriously) for about 10 years, although I started collecting stamps about 20-22 years ago.
One other little tip, if you use baby wipes to clean your stamps ( I use them for the Distress Inks), a piece of masking tape wrapped around a couple of fingers will very easily take off the lint that the baby wipes may leave- of course, the adhesive side should be on the OUTSIDE. LOL:p
