went to Michael's yesterday with my 50% off coupon and i got the Xyron 500 for i think twenty-two bucks! good deal i thought since it was originally $44.00 .
Very cool! Our Michaels has succeeded in making customers really mad. They are no longer providing a coupon if you forget yours or you paper doesn't come. It's either you have it or you don't. And it's terrible timing for them, a Hobby Lobby just opened up in Concord.
Wow, I didn't know Michael's honors JoAnn coupons. I usually have 4-5 JoAnn coupons and one of Michaels.
At Michael's, the girl cashiers would give out extra coupons, but now, they don't. One of the male managers was a real jerk to me one week when my local paper didn't have the coupon in the Sunday paper yet everyone else got one and I had asked them if they had an extra flier. If they are so stingy about those things, perhaps they should stop giving out coupons. There is a Hobby Lobby opening in my area, at an even closer driving time than where Michael's is. In this day and age were competition is high and customer service is important, you'd think they would make customers happy. That's just my 2 cents.
If you go on the Hobby Lobby home page, you can sign up for their weekly email containing their sales. I prefer to buy from them. Any company that respects Sunday and their staff enough to give them Sunday off gets my $$$.
At the Michael's by me they used to let my son purchase 1 item with a coupon (I would give him the coupon and the $) and then me another coupon. Last time I went they told me that it's only 1 coupon per person per day. I mentioned that my son (who is a customer) had a coupon and $ and that the item was for him (which it actually was!). They wouldn't let him purchase it with the coupon. I thought that was terrible customer service as they are discrediting children as customers!
Michaels' regular prices are so inflated that I won't buy anything there unless it's on sale, or I have a coupon. I asked them to ring up a coupon for me the last time I went, but they said they're no longer doing that. I told them, in that case, I didn't want the non-sale item. They must have adopted the policy nation-wide.

Well heres a real kicker for you...I worked at michaels for a short time while I was pregnant with my first child...They just throw away those coupons...It would take nothing for the cashier to grab one out of the trash can by their feet, hand it to you, you hand it back, them ring it up, then retoss it
I, too, have become a bit miffed at Michael's. We have a JoAnn's Super Store nearby (within 1/2 mile of Michael's) and now that I found out they accept Michael's coupons, I go there with my JoAnn's and Michael's coupons and they let me use one for each item! Never a gripe, never a nasty look - just wonderful smiles and customer service! After going there only a couple of times, I have now switched completely. It's so nice to actually have people there who seem to actually ENJOY helping you find what you need! Imagine that! Plus, their store is always so neat and clean, and things are where they are supposed to be, instead of cluttered in all different areas for the same topic/theme!
Maybe Michael's will eventually learn why they're losing business - but it may be too late by then! My $$ goes to JoAnn's! - J.
Well you guys are still luckier than I am.. My closest Michael's is an hour east or west of me. I was planning on stopping there on my way to the SCS gathering at the Lodge on Saturday too Just to check out what they have because I NEVER get there otherwise!!
For those of you with a Ben Franklin store in you area, they will honor Michael's and JoAnn's 40% and 50% off coupons even though they don't distribute any of their own. I just happened to be in the store one day when a group of managers were there. I can't even remember how the suject came up but one of the area managers told me about accepting the coupons.
hmmm our Ben Franklin has their own coupons printed up all the time. I don't get any Michael's or Jo Ann's coupons though to see if they do accept them though :(
Oh no! I hope my Michael's is the one exception. They "give" me the coupon because the coupon they put in the Sunday area doesn't get put into the papers that go in my area of the state, even though the store is less than 30 minutes away. If they have stopped this practice, then I will not be making any more runs there. ACMoore can have my Michael's business.

We have AC Moore & Michael's in our area. Personally I prefer AC Moore. I almost get the heebie-geebie's when I walk into Michael's. It seems so cluttered & disorganized!
What makes me mad is that the local paper here only runs Wednesday and Friday, so the ad isn't in the paper until Wednesday. That's what makes me mad that they stopped giving the coupon.
And Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday? Guess I won't be going there, it's my only day to go to Concord.
I can't stand Chick Fil A, very yuck!!! They could completely close and I wouldn't notice (our local store got an 85 the other day ~ very bad). And I really don't want to know the religion of a store. Simple deal, they are closed when I would go, I won't be going.
My personal opinion is (at least in our area) Lowes has more selection & lower prices, but HD has better customer service.
Thats funny, I was going to say exactly the opposite!
On Michaels - I have a friend who works there and she said that the corporate office told them not to hand out coupons, and now they're making them mark out the coupons as they ring them up!

(our local store got an 85 the other day ~ very bad).
What does that mean? An "85"
And I really don't want to know the religion of a store. Simple deal, they are closed when I would go, I won't be going.
Whew, Sorry didn't mean to offend.
An 85 would be the equivelant to a D rating when they score restaurants. Anything below a 95, I won't eat at.
And no offense, it's just my personal thing, I don't want to know your religion or your politics as a retailer. I want to know if you do or don't have good prices, the rest is your personal business and I just don't care.
Here was their response to my email. Their answer isn't even related to what I wrote them. I wrote them to inform them that customer service is just that customer service and they were falling short.
Thank you for your recent email expressing your interest in Michaels sales flyer and the distribution of discount coupons in your area. Michaels store ads and coupons are distributed in most metropolitan areas via a major newspaper or ad distribution service. This is the most effective way of distributing our ads at this time.
Currently, Michaels does not have coupons online. Please see your local paper's weekend edition for occasional coupons. If you are not receiving our sales flyer in your local papers home delivery, please email us your complete physical address and the name of the paper to which you subscribe or purchase on weekends. We will be happy to see what we can do about your request.

I went to Michael's yesterday and they had xyron refills for 40% off. Made the refills $20!!! I bought 3-2 magnet/laminate cartridge and 1 perm adhesive.
I hope Michaels changes their policy. A lot of companies are limiting coupon usage. I went to a dept store that often has coupons in the paper to buy some stuff. I had 3 coupons, but found 4 items and they wouldn't discount the 4th item even tho' they throw away the coupons. So I haven't been there since. Its a bad practice, especially if they are running coupons in the paper where customers can have free access. Oh well, whoever heard of customer service anyway?
I don't know if I have ever been to a Michaels store where the check out
line was not at least 5-10 people deep! My experience at almost every Michaels store I have been to -- the customer service people were not friendly! Unfortunately, I live in a very small town and have not other choice but to go there! I have been using my online discount with Joann as much as I can.!
I worked at the Michaels that is right here in town and I have noticed
the cashiers will get a coupon out of the drawer and use it again but
the new rule is they need a coupon which I did see the assitant manager
give one to a customer that didnt get one in the paper. But I will pass
on about Michaels and their coupons. I am sorry that they act this way
and of course if they do at the one I work at. Well my kids say I tell
people like it is so I am sure I will tell the manager what I think not
that will help any :?
Sorry again ladies for the way they treat you!!!

I asked about the availability of a new product at Michaels once, and the manager got really snippy with me and said, "Jeesh! You people watch too many craft shows!"
At the moment, I was too shocked to reply, but later wished I'd countered with, "If we didn't watch craft shows, you wouldn't have a job, lady!

How recent is this Michael's development? I was just there on Friday and the cashier gave me and both of my daughters a coupon. I live in between two big cities (and two Michael's )in a fairly small town. I can't get the paper from either city delivered, so if I want a Sunday paper and the coupons that go with it, I have to drive to one of these cities to get it (about 20 miles one way). That's not too far, but just to get a paper?
The kicker is I've had both of the papers in both of those cities call me to get me to subscribe -- which I did -- only to have them call back and tell me they don't deliver to my house! I told both of them to never call me again.
As far as Home Depot or Lowe's -- I like Home Depot better, but I really can't say why. I guess it's because that's where my husband likes to go.
I work in the world of retail and I will tell you this: You the consumer can change store policy. If you have experienced what I am reading here, go the the website and send a polite but firm message. Also, complain, again politely, to the store manager and ask for the district managers name and number. Complain to him also. Although it sounds like they are sending back a form letter reply, they are getting the message. They probably have so many complaints about the recent change, that they cannot respond to each one. Customer service is the name of the game in any retail business right now, and if they can't or wont respond to this issue, It will cost them dearly in the long run. I just read that SCS is now 17,000 members strong. That's a big lobby group!
I hate to burst your bubble but I got mine on-line at abc distributing for $13.95 ith shipping it was $21.
I looked @ ABC Distrib. & they only had the Xyron 250. With shipping, that's just about Loretta paid for her Xyon 500. Have you seen other models there? Wilde Ideas has the 250 for $14.95 + $4.95 flat shipping or you can get the 500 for $23 or the 520 for $29 (same shipping price.)
I just recently quit working for Michaels. Why? Because of all their dumb rules, that I felt were not very customer service oriented!
Anyhow, it is a "corporate" rule that each customer is suppose to have their own coupon. It varies from store to store whether or not they enforce this rule. And locally my Michaels has all of sudden required that each customer bring their own. This leads me to believe that "corporate" is enforcing this to the stores and eventually the stores that allowed the cashier to provide one for you will again.
I have never though, heard of someone refusing to give it to a kid with you that could pay and had another coupon.
Michaels will honor local competitors coupons. But only up to 40% off. Also, something that I think everyone should know is that they will also honor a competitors ads. So if AC Moore is having a 50% off sale on Sizzix dies, but you get there and the leaf die that you wanted is sold out, you can bring AC Moore's ad to Michaels and they will sell you the dies for 50% off. This is good if you don't want to bother waiting for a rain check at at AC Moore. And because Michaels is not having the sale, all their dies are in stock.
Sorry for the contradiction but...I LOVE Michaels and am SO happy we have one! I like Joanns too but Michaels selection is much better. Just my 2 cents.
I refuse to go to Michaels any more. I haven't gone in about 3 years! We have an awesome store called Crafts Direct which is 3 times the size of Michaels and has all the eyelets a girl could dream of! Three years ago my sister (age 33) was bald and sick from chemo (breast cancer) but ever the die hard stamper we went to Michaels to use the coupons and stock up on some things. The lines were really long and when there were 2 people a head of us she started to get really weak and needed to sit down. So I told her to go to the car and I would buy our things. The Cashier saw this and it was obviouse as she weighed like 3 pounds and was bald. When it was my turn I bought her 4 things and used a coupon and I had 2 things and told her my sister was sick and had to go to the car, so these are my things. (Only one coupon per visit). She huffed and angerly said, "No, you can't, unless you go to the back of the line." She crossed her arms and was so mean. I just kept thinking of my sick sister in the car (thank goodness I did her order first) I looked behind me and there were about 10 people in line behind me all with there mouths open in disbelief and you could literaly hear a gasp coming from them when she said i had to go to the back of the line. I just looked at her and said, "You saw how sick she was, just forget it" and I left my coupon and merchandise on the counter and walked out with just my sisters items. I haven't been back yet. Oh, and the cashier...she was a manager!!!!!! My sister died a few months later and upon going through her stampin stuff I noticed this bag from Michaels with the stuff we bought that day, Ijust threw it away I was so angry. I know this is too much to write, just needed to vent. Sorry.

Wow, I am absolutely shocked by the manager's behavior. I can see if she wanted you to write two separate checks so there would be two separate purchases (cause you can't ring up two coupons on one sale) but c'mon! That's horrible.
That was the thing, it was two seperate sales. She had already rung up Shelley's stuff and my stuff was just sitting there. I was just so hurt and upset. Okay, enough venting! lol
