Default Help, I can't find Gamsol

I've been trying to order some odorless mineral spirits to use with my Prisma pencils, but I can't find a smallish bottle anywhere. Anyone know where I can order it online?

If you can get to a Michaels or art store, Winsor & Newton Sansodor is the same thing...works the same!

I was at Walmart today and saw a 4 oz bottle of ordorless turpenoid (brush cleaner) in the artist supply area. I think it was only about $1.50 (Cdn). I've seen blogs where people use this instead and it works just as well.

Michaels also carries Mona Lisa Paint Thinner w/ her pic. on the front. On the back label under contents, it reads 100% odorless mineral spirits. I use it and it works great. Lots of people here use it. You could use a M's coupon too. ;) May God bless, Sandi

Thanks, that was fast! I have a Michaels about 40 min. away. I may take a drive over tomorrow. I hate it when I go that far then they don't have what I need. Maybe I will call them before making the trip. I appreciate the help!

You can also use Goo Gone, does the same thing! I found some at the Dollar Tree, if you have one near you!

I forgot to mention the Mona Lisa is in the back in the artist section, not up in the crafts section.

I've read some SCSer's are using Goo Gone, baby oil, and mineral oil. I haven't tried any yet. I'm wondering what the long term effects will be on my stumps. I haven't heard anyone say, but I'm afraid the paper stumps will break down over time from being oily. I like that OMS evaporates, and, being old as dirt - no pregnancy fears, and not having allergies, it works great for me. HTH. May God bless, Sandi

*Pwease let us know if it works.* Since its diff. from Goo Gone, I'm wondering if it'll move the color around like these other products.
I've never tried UnDo for removing adhesives but Christine has a video on www.scraptime.ca Her archive list is waaay at the bottom on the right side, click on podcasts. She says it completely evaporates. She only shows removing adhesives, not with colored pencils.

UH OH.. VENTILATION... I won't be trying it after all. My DH is a transplant recipient and cannot be around strong, bad stuff.
May God bless, Sandi

Well, it sort of works. It doesn't come out like the tutorial on Gamsol but it does blend the colors. It evaporates too quickly and too much smell! I use it occasionally for removing adhesives but I have to be careful because I have pulmonary fibrosis. I am crossing Undo off the list and will try to get the OMS at Michael's.

try Baby Oil with swisspers (they are the Q-tips for nail art type things that have a strong pointy end) both of these can be gotten locally for me (Walmart) - like you Michael's is a 40 minute trip. I have a friend that uses Baby Oil gel so has even more control over the oil.

I personally wouldn't use OMS if I had any pulmonary condition (I'm not a nurse but did work for a UK doctor was an expert on Mesothelioma cases etc)

They also have a great tutorial on their site.

I decided to take a drive today to hunt for the Gamsol. I found an AC Moore that had the Mona Lisa OMS, and the Winsor& Newton Sansodor. I opted to get the Sansodor because the Mona Lisa was a great big can and I didn't want to store that. Of course I couldn't get out of the store without buying a few more things. (At least I had a 40% off one item coupon) When I got home I tried the pencils with the Sansordor and I didn't like the results that much. My experiment with the Undo actually looked better. I finally drove to the Ace Hardware down the road a couple of miles and got some cheap 100 mineral spirits and that does seem to work. All that and I don't even have a card yet for my trouble. LOL, well, I do love a quest!

So the Mona Lisa Paint Thinner is OMS? I have seen that at HL but was afraid to buy it - didn't know if it was the same as Gamsol. Also someone once posted that the OMS you buy at the hardware store is not quite the same thing and not to use it. Is that true?

Really? Im sorry :(
I use the sansodor and love it. I tried the odorless mineral spirits and found it to be too oily and showing thru on the other side but with the sansodor it worked the same and less oily. Are you using the paper stumps too?
I know I cant use q-tips because I dont like the way it looks.
But Im sure Michaels will take back the sansodor.

I am going to try it on some different kinds of paper. I did go over to Inky Antics and order the Gamsol and also a blender pen they recommend for those who don't want to use solvents. I turn on a fan on my work table that blows any fumes away but I would rather play it safe. Thanks for all the input girls!
