Hi! I finally have about.. 100 copics.. I just want to know what is the best way to store them?? I kind of would like to store them upright in order so I can see what I am grabbing.. but if storing them sideways is better for them and keeps them from drying out or whatever.. could you let me know?? In the stores they always have them stored sideways.. so I'm wondering.. is that the best way to store them??
I used to store mine upright, with the brush end pointing down. I figured that would be okay, because I never use the broad end of the marker. That worked fine, but now I store them on their sides in a small basket on my desk.

I saw another thread that recommends ALL pens should be stored on their side.
If you can find a shelf with little cubicles it seems like a good way to go. If you want to be really crafty, buy a bunch of the water that comes in square bottles -- brand name Twist. Cut the tops off, tape the bottles together and decorate with paper and ribbons. That makes little cubicles and you can make it the size you want.
Mine are upright. Copic markers don't need to be stored on their side due to their construction. Copic themselves make a great acrylic case. I have two 36 count ones. I like their storage system a lot!
Basically you just need to make sure the caps are on tight. I've been looking into this a bit because I have two styles to store and I'd like to have one system....

I have probably 85 Copics. I had them in the 72 and 12 marker clear cases they come in from Copic. Yesterday I received the Pampered Chef tool caddy and put them it in. I love that it has enough compartments to sort by color groups and that it spins around to get at them easily. It's only around $18.
I looked at the other storage items Copic makes, but this works much better for me. I still have room for probably 50 or so more.
Thanks for all of your ideas.. I must admit that storing them on their sides in the twist containers sounds like a great idea!! I sure hope I can find twist water in Canada.. or something similar in a square container!! That never occoured to me!!
Thanks a lot.. I think I'll read up on the links that say that they can be stored upright- but I think I'd rather play it safe and store them on their sides.. if I can find a good way to do it!
Thanks again!! Both the ilikemarkers site and the copic site gave me a lot of information! In two weeks time I am going to a 3 hour copics class given by someone who has recently been copic certified in Seattle!

I have my stored in medium rectangular Snap 'n Stack containers. I can fit about 40 original Copics in each section. You can see each color through the containers. They're readily portable and relatively inexpensive. You can store other things along with your markers. Plus you can always add more on as your collection grows. HTH!

I just emailed Marianne about a problem I started having with my Copics. I stamped a very detailed image of a fairy with a lovely background and spent quite a bit of time working on the coloring. At the very end, a blob of ink came running down the brush tip and ruined the image. I understand that storing it upright with the end that you use most at the bottom, will keep them well inked and not dry out, but I'm afraid there's too much ink and some of the nibs in this set may not have been fastened securely. I'm starting to store them on its side in hopes it won't happen again.

I received Marianne's email and wanted to post it here just in case anyone runs into the same problem. This makes more sense to me now since I purchased my sets directly from Japan and they had been on the plane.
"The problem you're having has nothing to do with the direction you're storing the markers, since I've stored them both ways for years. Actually, what's happening is that your markers are VERY airtight and the air-pressure inside your marker is messed up. This happens from a sudden change in air pressure from a storm, or a change in elevation, or from flying with your markers and opening them in the pressurized cabin.
The easy way to solve this is to take the caps off both sides for a moment. This equalizes the air pressure inside and you shouldn't have any other problems."

I wanted to add to the ink blobbing issue ~ I had read about this on someones blog (sorry I don't remember whose) ~ but since I hadn't 'gone' anywhere and I have checked each one with no problems... I didn't give a second thought... until... about 2 weeks of not using my Copics (I know sad...but true) I started to color some images and 'plop' nearly ruined my my image (thankfully I'm a big follower of Marianne's and was able to fix it)... so on all the other markers I wanted to use I immediately took off both caps ~ at least one marker looked like it was going to leak ~ but I could see the ink being sucked back into the marker when I opened the other end... and now if I've not used a marker in awhile ~ I'll make sure to uncap both ends to begin with...
