I am a lurker but I am finally posting my first message!
I am addicted to Stampin' Up and have a question about how you all store your ink pads. I had been keeping mine in a large Rubbermaid container since I feel like they will dry out if I don'tkeep them in something airtight. From reading some of the other messages and seeing the new pad thing in the catalog, it doesn't seem like many others are worried about that. I am asking because I love the pad holders that are out there that are on the lazy susans! It would be so much easier to find the color I want rather than digging through the Rubbermaid each time....
Has anyone noticed a problem with their ink pads drying out from not keeping them in airtight containers? Someone in my stamp club said that her Soft Subtles seemed very faint after not using them for a while but I don't know if that was the problem.
I also just keep mine stacked up in a box although I'm thinking of getting a rotating cassette rack (or something similar) to keep them in. I have no problem with them drying out or anything. In fact, I have a sage shadow pad that I used to make 100 thank-you notes for my wedding (over 1 1/2 years ago) and it's still going strong!! I wouldn't worry about keeping them airtight!
I've not had a problem with my ink pads getting dried out. I also have some of the old style pads that I purchased used and they aren't dry. I would love to have an ink pad holder for my pads but I can't justify the cost!
I ordered from an online site the wooden lazy suzan type; holds 60 ink pads, 60 markers, 60 reinkers, 40 wheels, and a tray on top for misc. items. Has nice handles to carry it if I so desire. I LOVE it. Each pad has it's own storage area, the correponding marker & reinker are right there with it.
Your ink is not going to dry out if you don't keep your pads in an airtight container. The worst thing for ink pads: direct sunlight and heat.
Anyway, my DH purchased the lazy susan for my 40th Bday this summer and I am so very, very happy with it. Worth the money if you are a serious stamper or just love to have it all!
I was told to store the old pads up side down to keep them from drying out and that the new pads are made to store to keep them from drying out.
These are just things I have heard.

Julia: That is absolutely correct. The old style pad should be kept upside down so that gravity keeps the ink on the top of the pad. It keeps the pad nice & juicy. The new SU pads are designed so that when they are closed, the pad is upsidedown. They are awesome pads and larger than the old style.

there is a discussion on Forums at Splitcoaststampers about quite inexpensive storage options that are easier than rummaging thru a box (which is what I was also doing until just recently).
SU has a great "turn style" ink pad holder for the new and old style pads. It is called the color caddy. I have a wonderful storage container for the old style pads I purchased at Home Depot I think for under $10. It is gray and yellow with a clear lid and made by Zag. It fits all of the 48 colors plus a few extra pads (I put my spectrum pads and versamark in the top). I store them all upside down and have stamped a little sticker with the color of the pad and labeled them all. It is great to be able to have them all right there and color coded and not have to "dig" for the right color. I also have them stored by color grouping. Everyone is right about storing the pads upside down. I have had my pads for over 5 years and they are still as good as ever. I REALLY want the new style pads but mine are so good I can not justify getting all new ones! Good luck on your quest for a storage unit! I hope I have helped.
I also have that container for my old pads, but my new ones are in the original boxes. The only color family I don't have is the Bold Brights one because the box got damaged when I left it on my table one day and my niece and nephew thought it would be good to tear it up and throw it all over the house :(
does the zag holder you purchased from home depot also hit the new pads? what area of home depot is the unit located? is it vertical, horizotal, does it spin?

I really like the wood one on the link that was offered, but if you are a demo, why not spend that $60 and get the one from SU? It will count towards keeping you active as well as cruise and great rewards points! It also holds reinkers as well as the pads.
I want one that when I become a demo can carry it w/o having to keep putting it back in the box! This one is cool, and wood will hold up much better than plastic. At least if I dropped the wood one I have all the tools in the garage to fix it
