Anyone from Louisville?

I am going to Louisville later this week. Does anyone know of any stamp stores I might visit? We are staying at The Galt House downtown and I will have a car. Also if you have any suggestions for things to do in downtown Louisville in the evenings, I'd appreciate them.

There are two Dee's Crafts--the one that is near the Malls is the best one.

If you have the time, there is a little town in Indiana called Nashville (about 85 miles from Louisville). There are several great little stamp and craft shops there. It is a "tourist" town and is really a fun place.

There used to be a wonderful locally owned store in Louisville but sadly they closed a few years ago. As far as I know (I'm in Lexington) no one has opened another one, just the big box stores like someone mentioned.

Craft shops - all the ones I have found have been mentioned.

You will be in walking distance of Forth Street Live which is a shopping/restaurant/bar area.

The Muhammad Ali Centre is downtown.

There is also a Science Museum and Glass Blowing Factory

Churchill Downs also has museum.

Louisville Zoo is pretty good and has gorillas and a Baby (well 1 year old) Elephant.

If you go further south on I-65 about 30-45 minutes you could go to Bernheim Forest and the Jim Beam Factory

Truly the only thing left anymore are Hobby Lobby, Michaels and of course Archivers in Oxmoor Mall.

For night life in downtown Louisville, you must visit Fourth Street Live. There are swanky bowling lanes and a pool hall (upscale). There are tons of restaurants and bars. I don't know if anything is going on at the Kentucky Center for the Arts or Actor's Theatre when you are in town, but you can check them out at the Galt House. The Galt House is also connected to the Belevedere which is wonderful at night. Fountains, lights and views of the river. During the day there are the Muhammad Ali Museum, Louisville Slugger and Fraziers Arms Museum. Also, the River Bats stadium is downtown and if you are into baseball, they might be playing at home. There is plenty to do in downtown Louisville!

We have family in Louisville and visit every year. I don't know of any stamp stores (and I always check when I'm there) other than the ones mentioned above, but I also want to give a thumbs up to stopping off at Nashville, Indiana on your way home - it's about 20 minutes from the Columbus, Indiana, exit, off Interstate 65. Nashville is a cute little touristy town with dozens of fantastic arts & crafts store, and a great stamping store called "Wishful Thinking" where I've gotten LOTS of fantastic stamping stuff. We always make Nashville an overnight stop on our trips to Louisville - it's so quaint and relaxing. Plus, Brown County State Park is right there too, if you're into hiking or camping.

I also highly recommend visiting Glassworks in downtown Louisville (the glassblowing place mentioned above), and also the Kentucky Crafts Museum and Louisville Slugger (if that interests you) - both within walking distance of Glassworks.

I live across the river, in Indiana, and can tell you that there are no unique stamp stores in the Louisville/Southern Indiana area. Only the hobby and craft stores mentioned already. If you looking for stamps that you don't see in every other store you go in, I highly recommend the drive north to Nashville, IN. Besides Wishful Thinking there is also a shop called Papertrix, which is fabulous. I just happened to be going through Nashville this past weekend and the car went there all by it's-own-self, and of course, I spent more than I intended. Oh, well....

:lol: just be aware that if you follow the signs for Nashville from Louisville you will be going to Tennessee not Indiana!

My sisters and I visited Nashville, IN several years back for one of our sister's weekends. It is a very cute town and we enjoyed our weekend there.
Maybe my dh and I will just "happen" to stop for lunch there on the way home. "Hey look honey, a stamp store!" tee hee
