I am thinking of making them soon and for the first time...I see everyone talking about the RSVP pens, but can I ask :
>Is that all that works for this project?
>Can't you use a clicker pen without a cap?
>How many pens can you get out of how many containers of microbeads?
>Are they SU microbeads, or elsewhere?
I purchased my beads from Pennywise and you have enough beads to make quite a few pens....Ive made about 12 already..and still have lots of beads left. The thing with a 'clicker' pen is you cant really wrap the double tape under the little clip part....unless there is no clip....but from experience, it just works and looks better with the RSVP. Ive used the pens that look like RSVP that I got from walgreens...and they work too.
I have used other pens (didn't have RSVP) but ended up realizing why everyone said to use RSVP pens! If it has a cap, there needs to be no little exta piece (like to hook in a pocket or over paper) as this will not fit back on after the beads are on. If you have a clicker pen, same thing... it there is that little plastic or metal clippy thing, it won't work. The RSVP pens work best because of these reasons (and they are the same size all the way from tip to end.. they don't taper at all.)
As for the beads, I've searched all the big chain stores for seed beads or micro beads with no luck. I've had to get SU micro beads... I can usually get 10-15 pens from one container.
Make sure to wear a glove or plastic baggie over your hand when you press the beads into the tape or the oils from your hands will make the beads not stick.
Good luck... these are soooo fun to make!

I have found the beads at Michael's. They sell them in a few different colors for 1.99 for 2 small tubes. I am not sure how many ounces. I have made 2 pens so far and both turned out great.
It's funny to me but the micro beads at Michaels are in the stamping aisle. I had looked a couple of times in their beading section. Last week I found them while looking at some stamp supplies.
I found that using the 6x8 sticky sheet from pennywise works very nicely instead of using strips of sticky tape. I was able to get 9 pens out of one sheet (I cut the pieces of sticky sheet the same size as the paper that you put on the pen first, I attached this paper with a piece of sticky strip on each long end and rolled it around the pen). I don't know how many pens you can get out of a container of microbeads, but I did 20 pens the other day and I still have lots of microbeads left over. Hope this helps.
