Like so many before me, I thought I was in trouble when Lydia wanted to talk with me. Then again, maybe she was going to ask me to join the Dirty Dozen? I'm an optimist, but even I knew the chances were slim, because I'm also a realist. Shock and Awe! I am thrilled to be a member of the Dirty Dozen.
My ancestors came over on the Mayflower. Stephen Hopkins had to leave England after he was found guilty of rum running. He settled on what is now Cape Cod. Thirteen generations later my family still lives here and they own a string of liquor stores. I guess the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree.
My maiden name was Luke and my grandparents were Mary & Joseph Luke - really! I'm happily married to my best friend and we've been inseparable since 1964. I am the youngest of 5, and became an Aunt when I was 8. I have 26 nieces/nephews - 5 great and 3 great-great. I've probably changed more diapers than most Moms and I'm everyone's favorite Aunt.
I've worked since I was 18; had a fascinating job in my twenties which required DOD, AEC and Q-clearances. The last 20 years, before retirement, I worked full time plus did the bookkeeping for my husband's business on weekends. We sold the business when we were 58, retiring on the same day and we are enjoying every minute.
I googled an image one day and saw a card made by Kittie Caracciolo: instant fascination. Followed her link to SCS and began buying dies. Fortunately, I have a black belt in shopping, so quickly filled my craft closet with all kinds of card making supplies. My first upload to SCS was 4/17/12. This is a wonderful venue for learning the craft of card making. I'm on a constant learning expedition with the aid of the fantastic artists here.
Besides an almost three year addiction to card making, I love cats (bet you knew that). My husband and I rescued 43 cats in the business park where he had his shop. We had them all spayed/neutered and found homes for all but 4. We show our Corvettes, he fishes and I love photographing birds. My bird photos have been published in two magazines and a hard cover book by Birds and Blooms. Life is good on Cape Cod!
