Lois Bak - clownmom
Casselberry, FL
Hi! I’m Lois Bak. This trip to the Dirt Pile was quite unexpected -- and I’m so very happy to be here! But I have to tell you that I threw a bit of a monkey wrench into Lydia’s grand plan to have me call her so she could ask me if I wanted to be part of the Dirty Dozen. Of course, when we finally got to it, I was thrilled to say, “Yes, indeed!” Here’s the story: I had posted an involved project on Facebook, which apparently caught her eye. She pm’d me, asking that I call her to talk about doing a tutorial. I replied to her, telling her that someone had already done a tutorial and had attached it to her card description and that I didn’t want to take credit for something that I had CASEd. I politely thanked her for thinking of me. About an hour later, my phone rang. It was from a cell phone number in Texas. Although I don’t really know anyone in Texas, the phone number looked vaguely familiar. (It should have looked familiar – I had just seen it in a pm!) I don’t usually answer the phone if I don’t know who’s on the other end, but I picked up the phone. And there was Lydia! Imagine my surprise at the real reason for the call! So here I am sharing a gallery with so many very talented card-makers.

A little bit about me: I moved with my late husband Tom to sunny Florida 47 years ago from eastern Pennsylvania with two of our three children, both boys (Doug and Scott). My youngest, a daughter named Kathi, is my only true Floridian. My three children have given me eight grandchildren and a couple of grand-pets. Like many stampers that I’ve met (in real life or in cyberspace), I’ve gone through the gamut of crafts: embroidery, crewel, counted cross-stitch, macramé, ceramics, plastic-canvas needlepoint. But all of that ceased when I discovered stamping at a Stampin’ Up workshop hosted by my BFF. I was supposed to be just a “warm body” to give her some numbers. My first order was one stamp set, some cardstock, and a couple of ink pads. These simple items have mushroomed into a very large inventory . . . but I still have that first set, Fishy Friends! My SCS name, Clownmom, comes from the fact that I’ve been collecting clowns of all sorts for a very long time. I’m the only person I know who has a clown riding in a hot air balloon hanging from her living room ceiling! A photo of it is on the header of my blog.

I worked for many years as a bookkeeper for an association management company, where I kept the books for up to 14 not-for-profit associations. I retired several years ago although I do keep my fingers in it just a little bit. A former co-worker convinced me to help her in her new company by overseeing her books on a part-time basis – very part-time, as it turned out. I visit her once every three months to reconcile her clients’ checkbooks and make sure she’s staying on top of things. In addition, I do volunteer work at my church once a week. My other passion is reading . . . mainly detective novels. But I love Tolkien (read Lord of the Rings trilogy twice, as well as The Silmarillion and The Hobbit), George R. R. Martin (waiting very impatiently for the sixth installment in the Game of Thrones saga), and J. K. Rowling (I always knew Professor Snape was a good guy!). I love roller coasters and recently celebrated my 73rd birthday with my son Doug and his wife Alex by riding the Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster at Universal Studios Theme Park in Orlando. Alex told me that her co-workers think I’m the coolest mother-in-law in their office!

I have met many friends on Splitcoaststampers and am truly honored to be part of the Dirty Dozen. I hope I can live up to your expectations of a Dirty Girl. Believe me, I never expected to be here!
