Laurie Schmidlin - Lauraly
Oh my goodness! I just can’t believe that I’m here! What a wonderful dream . . . please, no one wake me! When I first received Julie’s “Confidential” PM, it felt like my heart stopped…because I thought that I had done something wrong, and was in big trouble! Being asked to be a “Dirty Girl” was the furthest thought from my mind. I am SO glad I was wrong! LOL!
My name is Laurie Schmidlin (Lauraly here on SCS). I am married to a wonderful man, and together we have four children (ranging in age from 2 to 11). As I was trying to think of interesting things that you might want to know about me, I just kept coming back to my family. They are such a huge part of who I am . . . and what I do! My husband (of almost 13 years), is from Switzerland. The difference in languages and cultures has brought a little frustration, but mostly humor to our marriage! We have so many funny stories to tell about that . . . In fact, it’s that reason that I have my nickname (or SCS user-name) Lauraly. When my husband first introduced me to his parents, he called me Lauraly . . . and to this day, that is what he and his parents still call me! We have one beautiful daughter (the oldest), and three busy and rambunctious sons. We live on a cattle ranch in Montana . . . about an hour from the nearest small town. The benefits of living so rurally far outweigh the sacrifices. I love being able look out my kitchen window and see moose, deer, elk, antelope, horses, and of course . . . cattle!
I haven’t always been a “ranch girl”. I was born in Belize, Central America but spent most of my growing-up years in Portland, OR. It was there, in Portland, that I learned to play the cello. While touring Europe, and playing in a Chamber Orchestra, I discovered another passion – traveling! I feel so fortunate to have been to, and experienced, so many wonderful places (and I hope that as my children grow we can experience even more together)!
In between school and playing the cello, I never really had time (or that much interest, honestly) to learn any of the crafts that my mother was so good at. After my daughter was born, I was invited to a Stampin’ Up! party . . . and well, I was hooked instantly! I signed up to be a demonstrator the next day . . . and the rest is stampin’ history!
Trying to juggle everything: raising our children (and running after an extremely busy 2 year old), helping my husband on the ranch, and homeschooling makes for a very busy life! Stamping, and creating something that I hope will bring joy to others, is what I do to re-charge. If I get a little stressed (grumpy), it’s not unusual for my hubby to say, “Wouldn’t you like to go stamp a little”? LOL!
I am so grateful for this wonderful site . . . I have gained so much from it! I can only hope to give back a portion of the creative inspiration and friendship that I’ve received here! I am so honored to be a part of the Dirty Dozen, and I will try to do my best for you each and every month!
