Julie Elak - humma
My name is Julie Elak and I go by “Humma” on SCS. I am incredibly excited to be a part of the Dirty Dozen! I have been turning to SCS for inspiration and tutorials since 2005. Time flies when you are having fun!
My user name, Humma, comes from the humuhumunukunukuapua’a fish, Hawaii’s state fish, which is sometimes called a trigger fish. I think trigger fish are beautiful and I like that they have a big personality. We even used to have a trigger fish in a salt water tank in our home.
I am married and have 3 children. My daughter is 15 and my twin sons are 11. I have been crafting forever. I began dabbling in stamping almost 20 years ago. It was not until my sons were born that stamping became my primary focus. I love to quilt and sew, but I do not have enough time. I like that a card is finished in minutes versus months for a quilt.
I started a blog when my sons were 1 so that I would have a way to join in stamping challenges. It was around that time that I started posting on SCS too. Prior to then I was a lurker! I was always looking to SCS for ideas, but not ready to post my own cards.
Stamping is my creative outlet. I work full time and that along with my children keeps me busy. I bring my water color markers with me and color on the go. If there is time available I will find it. I can frequently be found sitting in my car or in waiting rooms coloring away while I wait for the kids! I carpooled to work for 10 years and was known for leaving behind tiny bits of paper from all the fussy cutting I did. I was allowed to use glue in the car but not glitter!
The stamping community provides so much support and camaraderie. I am currently on the Splitcoaststampers CAS design team. I am also on the Your Next Stamp design team, in the role of team coordinator. I can’t believe that I am adding Dirty Dozen to my crafting resume. Thank you Lydia for asking me. It is truly an honor to be among so much talent.
