Test Tube Holder

by Lisa Somerville

Create a little holder for test tubes out of cardstock for a darling treat.

Supplies

  • One 4" x 11" piece of cardstock
  • Test tubes
  • Circle Punch size depends on your test tube, try 1" or 1 1/4"
  • Scor-Pal™, or other scoring tool
  • Scor-Tape™, or other strong adhesive
  • Stamps (Halloween Treats from Artistic Outpost used here)
  • Additional cardstock and patterned paper to decorate the holder
  • Scissors

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

    Score your 4" x 11" piece of cardstock at 1/2", 1 3/4" , 4 1/4" and 5 1/2",

  2. Step 2

Turn your cardstock so your short side lines up with the top of your scoring tool. Score at 1 1/4" and 2 3/4".

  3. Step 3

Rotate cardstock back to original position in step 1 and score at the 8" mark to the 1-1/4” mark, then score from the bottom edge to the 2 3/4" score, leaving the center panel score-less.

  4. Step 4

Cut away pieces as shown per template.

  5. Step 5

Punch circle in top section as shown.

  6. Step 6

    Add Scor-Tape™ to sides

  7. Step 7

    Assemble box.

  8. Step 8

Decorate and add treat filled test tube.

Can anyone give me an idea where to buy the test tubes. I think these are adorable and would love to make some.

I love these, but despite my efforts, I don't know where you can get the test tubes. Please help!

Thanks so much for the tutorial! I am also unable to purchase test tubes where I live, but as an alternative, I did find gobs of those little test tube like plastic thingies with the rubber top that they put on a single flower with water. KWIM? So, you might be able to buy some from a florist? I get mine from a hobby wholesaler here in town so I can't offer you any better advice.

These look like fun to make and give but where do you get the test tubes?
Andrea  |  Wed Sep 14, 2011 at 7:21 AM
You can find test tubes at http://Tayloredexpressions.com and http://eclecticpaperie.com.
Taylors tubes have a silver lid (check my sample in the gallery), EP tubes have a plastic lid as shown in one of the tutorial samples.
The samples with the cork on top are from EK Success. I don't know where to get those tubes.

The variation files are in a google document. I am not sure, but you might have to sign into google for that (gmail account).

As Beate mentioned the ones with the plastic lid are from Eclectic Paperie, the larger/longer test tubes are from EK Success - in the past I've bought them at Michaels and Joanns.

WOUW thanks soo very much for an awesome tutorial here. It is such an awesome idea. I just hope, we can get these testtubes somewhere here, as Ive never seen them anywhere, but else, Ill have to search the interneet for them and hope someone will ship here. Unfortunately I know, that neither Michaels or JoAnns will, so hope someone else will have them too.
Thanks again soo much for the great idea.

yes, I have checked each of these stores for months now looking for some. I wanted some for my daughters bridal shower, a very similar idea to this (though I like this better) and have not been able to find them.

I found my test tube favors with the cork top at Micheal's last year at Halloween. They are by Martha Stewart.

Great tutorial - thanks for the halloween idea. I've been pulling my hair trying to figure out what to give my kids class... THANK YOU!!
I ran out and bought some from Taylor Expressions (before they run out). Not a bad price 6 for $4.95.

we have a great store here in the Chicago suburbs called American Science and Surplus. They have lots of different sizes of test tubes. Their website is www.sciplus.com
