Scallop Envelope Box

by Jane Matsumoto

Create a darling box with four scallop edge envelopes.

Supplies

  • Four 5" x 5 1/2" pieces of cardstock or patterned paper
  • One 2 3/16" x 12" strip of patterned paper
  • Scallop Envelope Bigz Die (Stampin’ Up®)
  • Big Shot™, or other die cut machine
  • Adhesive
  • Stamps
  • Ink
  • Additional cardstock or patterned paper

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Cut your four 5" x 5 1/2" pieces of cardstock with the Bigz Scallop Envelope Die and Big Shot.

  2. Step 2

    Crease all scored lines.

  3. Step 3

Add Scor-Tape™ along one of the side tabs of each die cut.

  4. Step 4

Adhere one die cut to the next.

  5. Lay the project flat.

    Hint:
You can adhere the inside tabs to the panels, but this may make creasing the box after the next step more difficult.

  6. Step 5

Adhere the patterned paper to the die cut strip.

Start on one end, approximately 1 1/4” from the edge (creasing as you go). You will have 1 1/4” of the patterned paper sticking out past the other end.

  7. Put the last two tabs together and then adhere the rest of the patterned paper.

    Variation:
After putting the box together, start adhering patterned paper on one end and wrap all the way around (creasing as you go). Finish on the same panel you started with, but expect a small gap. The 12” of patterned paper will not cover the entire front.

  8. Step 6

Tuck the bottom flaps (not scalloped) over each other and tuck the bottom edge of the last flap into the box.

  9. Lift each flap and adhere using either double-sided tape or glue dots.

  10. Step 7

    Decorate the front as desired.

Hi Lori! I just saw your question about the Scallop Envelope Bigz Die with the Cuttlebug. It looks like Carol did a great job answering your question. THANKS CAROL!! Let me know if you need more help with this, Lori. I can try putting a tutorial up on my blog using the Cuttlebug and making this box if you need a visual.

Thanks Jane! I don't own the SU envelope die so made due with a coluzzle type system for basic envelope shape and a fancy punch for one edge. Worked for me! Maybe Vicki from Australia can try that.

I had a hard time hearing Jane. My volume was turned up, but her voice is soft. The box is darling. Kay McKinnis Moore is a suburb of Oklahoma City, OK

I would like to know where to get the score tape. I'm seen it being used several times. Is it something that I can order off the internet??
Loved your box . Can't wait to try it. Thanks, so much for sharing. Linda

This is just so cute! The little fairy stamp is just adorable, can you tell me what company the stamp comes from? Great job by the way smile

Love your tutorial. Can't wait to try the box. Was wondering where you get the score tape?? I've head others say they really like it. Looked at Michaels, but did not find it there. Is it something you have to order on line and where? Thanks, for sharing.

For Vicki, as of April 1st the scalloped envelope die will be available in Aus/NZ from your SU demonstrator. So if nobody supplies a template in answer to your question, there's not long to wait until you can order your own die.

I would love to make this but don't have the die. Is there a way of using a scallop border punch to make this? Any help would be great. Very cute project. Thank you.

Linda,
You can either type in Scor-Tape into your internet search engine and find a lot of online stores that carry it, or you can purchase it directly at the Scor-Pal store.

Amanda,
please check the first page of comments. Jane posted where the stamp is from there.

Kathleen,
I am sure you can create the box without the die. We would just have to figure out the measurements, cut and score lines.

I love this idea, I have been looking for something cute to put Easter candy in and to give to the kids in our family, This is it.

Thanks, Beate! I usually get my Scor-Pal tape from the lss but the last one I bought was added to an order with MFT.

The stamp that I used is from Pink Cat Studio.
The image is from the Enchanted Lily set.

Thank you everyone for the awesome comments and feedback.

Kay - I'm sorry you had a difficult time hearing my voice. I was sick during the time I was shooting the video and also had a sleeping child beside me. I needed to get the video done before I had to give the borrowed Flip back to its owner the following morning.

If you go to the gallery under "Anything But A Card" --> Boxes, Baskets, Bags, Bows --> Scallop Envelop Box, you will find a few more samples that I have made. One of them is a cute pastel box with Paper Prettie's Cooper holding an egg. The handle was attached differently and turned out cute. The flaps on the box of that one is taped down to the sides of the box too.

Would love to see what you make with this tutorial!

These are cute! A fellow demo, catrules, showed me this project about this time last year! She showed a sample with a handle and make a cute Easter project with this.
