Diagonal Double pocket card

by Claudia Rosa

Create a double pocket card out of one sheet of patterned paper.

Supplies

image
  • One 8 1/2" x 11" piece of patterned Paper

  • Paper scoring tool

  • Scissors

  • Adhesive

  • Ruler

  • Additional cardstock, stamps and embellishments to decorate card front and make inserts.

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Score the long side of the patterned paper at 4 1/4" and fold in half.

  2. Step 2

Turn paper 90 degrees, score short side at 5 1/2" and fold in half.

  3. Step 3

Unfold paper. Cut the horizontal fold from the left edge of the paper to the vertical score line.

  4. Step 4

Fold the bottom right corner so the bottom edge meets the edge of the center score.

  5. Step 5

Fold down the top left corner. Leave 1" - 1 1/2" room from the edge of the folded down corner to the vertical fold.

  6. Step 6

Fold the top left rectangle over to the right hand side.

  7. Step 7

Fold the left bottom rectangle under the folded rectangle on the right bottom.

  8. Step 8

Fold the bottom corner up over the other folded up corner.

  9. Step 9

Add adhesive on the sides of the bottom half and fold it up.

  10. Step 10

Decorate card front and create inserts for the pockets.

    Here the tags measure 2 1/2" x 5" and 1 3/4" x 5".

Variations

  1. After step six, instead of folding the right side under, fold both lower flaps up.

  2. Fold the left quadrant back. Use adhesive to attach loose ends. Now your card will be able to fold open.

Claudia you did a great job with the tutorial. I thought the directions were clear and understanding and I plan on making lots of the double pocket cards. I hope you will do many more tutorials.

Hugs!!

Thanks for sharing this great tutorial, Claudia. You did a great job. You card is lovely.

I've never heard about Technique Junkies before this post. Shame on those who blasted you and Beate for taking the time to teach us and doing such a wonderful job. Even though it was meant to hurt anyone, I'm sure it did.

Hopefully we'll see more tutorial from you. I'm sure you have alot to offer!

OOPSIE...Even though it was meant to hurt anyone, I'm sure it did.

**I meant to say**

Even though it probably was NOT meant to hurt anyone, I'm sure it did...sorry about that. We all need to watch what and how we say it.

I LOVE THIS! OK, so at first I didn't get it - and I am sooo bad about following the written direction, I am a very visual person. So I got a piece of paper and I followed the directions. My measurements were exact, but it came out super cute! Thanks for this.

Claudia, thank you for a fabulous tutorial!!! I have been wanting to try one of these cards and now that I've seen your tutorial, I will!

I have to say that I am truly disheartened by the public lashing - so unprofessional and meanspirited. I agree that a public forum is the wrong place for people to criticize a person's work.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a brand new day and we can all remember how lucky we are to have this wonderful resource and fabulously creative people that share information, methods, designs, and inspiration with us all.

I love this technique, even my biggest problem is that I do not get double sided paper, so I have always to use plain one and go wild with decorating it! I knew this technique for years (without even knowing Technique Junkies!), the only really new advice was to fold the right top underneath to get a card you can open in the normal way. That is something I really do like and will use more often. Thanks for all the Wednesday tutorials, I love them and I am always looking forward to them and living in Europe, I always have to wait v e r y long! 'smile'

I stopped to make one of these cards yesterday but found that I didn't have any double sided paper in the right size. Sooo, I cut the corner off the front (biggest) fold, leaving a "hem" and sticking that down. Then I used the cut off corner to stick onto the card front behind the back pocket. This way the bare corner was covered as it would have been with a whole piece. How hard it is to explain things in words, I do admire people who can. Any way, it worked and I still had the flap to go onto the back of the card And I had a piece left over to use for a cot out to decorate the insert!!!
I do hope no one else has written this down anywhere!! Keep crafting!

After rereading my earlier post, I realize it sounds a bit snarky, which was not my intention. So I am publicly stating, "Claudia, I'm sorry for commenting in such a way that may have offended you." Though this is not a new idea, it indeed is well explained in this tutorial. Claudia, your cards are beautiful! Thank you, Claudia, for your contribution to SCS.

I also enjoyed this tutorial. Although it is certainly none of my business, I am saddened to see so many people criticize what is a free resource. I can't imagine that the criticizers will go back and read this, but I would encourage people to check out the below link. You can not copyright an idea or process...

I loved this project -- I just tried it and am thrilled with the turnout! This is only my second project inspired by SCS, but I am looking forward to many more!

Great job, Claudia -- please keep posting tutorials and ideas! Your pictures were beautiful, and a BIG help!

Regarding the (2) sided decorative paper - glue two coordinating sheets back to back --works like a charm! My only confusion was the first step 4 1/4 was a tad off of just folding the sheet in HALF the long way - maybe my Fiskas slice n dicer is off a few notches...I need to buy a new one anyway...so it's time! Thank you! Great site, great projects, I can't wait to show you my Quilling projects...need to learn the upload/download techniques...Thank you!

Love your tutorial Claudia. this is the first time that I have posted a comment. Don't worry about the bad comments they are not worth it. You did a sensational job posting this tutorial and made it easy for people follow and do. Keep up the good work and hopefully you will be posting again soon. I will look forward to seeing your next tutorial soon !!! xoxo

Claudia, Beautiful Card! I have been a member of SCS for a couple of years now(yes, I am one of the lurkers), but I have been fearful of posting too much - for reasons all the previous posts have unfortunately validated for me - thank you for a wonderful card and tutorial. I do subscribe to the TJ newsletter as well, but I appreciate any/all new ideas I get from both SCS and TJ. Thanks again for being brave enough to share your ideas (maybe someday I will too) - by the looks of it, I need to check out your blog as well! Keep up the great work -:-)
