Diagonal Double pocket card

by Claudia Rosa

Create a double pocket card out of one sheet of patterned paper.

Supplies

image
  • One 8 1/2" x 11" piece of patterned Paper

  • Paper scoring tool

  • Scissors

  • Adhesive

  • Ruler

  • Additional cardstock, stamps and embellishments to decorate card front and make inserts.

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Score the long side of the patterned paper at 4 1/4" and fold in half.

  2. Step 2

Turn paper 90 degrees, score short side at 5 1/2" and fold in half.

  3. Step 3

Unfold paper. Cut the horizontal fold from the left edge of the paper to the vertical score line.

  4. Step 4

Fold the bottom right corner so the bottom edge meets the edge of the center score.

  5. Step 5

Fold down the top left corner. Leave 1" - 1 1/2" room from the edge of the folded down corner to the vertical fold.

  6. Step 6

Fold the top left rectangle over to the right hand side.

  7. Step 7

Fold the left bottom rectangle under the folded rectangle on the right bottom.

  8. Step 8

Fold the bottom corner up over the other folded up corner.

  9. Step 9

Add adhesive on the sides of the bottom half and fold it up.

  10. Step 10

Decorate card front and create inserts for the pockets.

    Here the tags measure 2 1/2" x 5" and 1 3/4" x 5".

Variations

  1. After step six, instead of folding the right side under, fold both lower flaps up.

  2. Fold the left quadrant back. Use adhesive to attach loose ends. Now your card will be able to fold open.

This is crazy! Anyone ever heard of not reinventing the wheel??? This is supposed to be fun! Who cares! I bet that this technique is ancient! Poor Claudia. I am sure that this wasn't done to be hurtful. :( Play nice ladies!!!

hi, i just wanted to add that the card is very cute! love the way you added to the technique. i recieved a card like this for Christmas with holiday double sided paper, so im sure that the design has been around for a while, but i forgot all about it and im glad you showed how it was done! great tutorial! as for the comments from others, i hope that you will let them roll off your back and have a great day tomorrow, how sad that you had to deal with all that! and im sure its really easy to say things in the same way when talking about paper crafting, we all use the same terms and jargon. and i love SCS, am a fan club member, and will visit here every day as usual! and beate.. I love your blog and tutorials too!!!

What a cute idea and not difficult to make. My biggest downfall is having the room to make it. My craft area is in the process of getting organized. Thanks for the ideas and instructions. I print them all and put them in my notebook.

Claudia....thanks for your efforts in presenting this technique to SCS. This community is usually a warm and fuzzy place, full of caring, sharing, SUPPORTIVE stampers. I am so sorry that you are facing such scrutiny when all you meant to do was to enhance our network with a new technique. Please know your efforts were greatly appreciated. To the TJ supporters....I would hope that in the future you handle any concerns you have in a civilized and private manner. As some of you have reflected on your earlier comments, they DO come across poorly. You may very well have valid points to make, but I believe they should have been made more privately. Maybe this person you are all defending could have contacted Claudia privately and they could have dealt with it with kindness and understanding with more positive results and less hurt feelings.

Please lets continue SCS as a supportive and sharing network of civil and respectful stampers.

Hi Claudia! I loved the card when I first saw it on your blog & was happy you did a tutorial on it. I hope you will teach us more techniques, but I will continue reading your blog & admiring all your wonderful creations too!

I really like the looks of this card. Thank you for posting, and for the creator/creators.
There is mention of better directions. Are you willing to share, giving credit where credit is due? Now that we are all intrigued by the design, I'd like more information.

We should leave this up to the direct parties involved and the SCS management to resolve this issue as they've already asked. The nature of this site is to support and share our love for stamping. Not make slanderous comments. I hope we all can get back to stamping.

Well, I just made mine, Claudia, lol! Only problem was I took so long trying it one way and then another (pockets inside? or outside. inside? or outside) that I ran out of time to get the tags made! Oy....Very fun, and so nice to have the pictures step by step...

My limited exposure to the Technique Junkie newsletter has not been good, so I will not ever be subscribing again. I get all I need and more from the wonderful scs community.

Claudia, I loved your tutorial, it was very well written. I hope we see more of them!

By the way, is there any technique in the paper crafting world that is unique? I think not!

excuse me, but how many different ways can you say fold up left corner???? she doesn't claim it is her idea. She just did this so others can learn this cool idea. That way those of us that are not TJ fans can have the opportunity to make this also.

Great job on the tutorial

This is a shame how a lot of you are slamming this poor woman. There are better things to do than cause all this ruKus. Doing things like this is what causes the owners to close forums or moderate every post.

Wise up ladies, tomorrow is another day

Ms. Claudia, I am very new here, and am just appaulled at how others here have treated you!! I am a scrapbooker, cardmaker and stamper and in scrapbooking, it's called "SCRAPLIFT", for those of you that have nothing nice to say, for a reason!! Thank you Ms. Claudia for what you have brought to us, WOW, you did an AWESOME job on the tutorial and your card is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! KEEP UP THE GOOD (AND HARD) WORK!! Don't let these idiots spoil it for you.

For those of you that had nothing good to say and got all this DRAMA started, I will keep a list of your names and as soon as I see that it is you, I will delete it and let others know not to have anything to do with your work as well. There is a "TACTFUL" way of doing things and that is how all of you should of handled it, not in a public forum as such. You all have malicous hearts to have attacked this poor lady and you ALL owe her a deep heart felt apology. I pray that the Lord forgives those of you that have hurt Ms. Claudia because you definitely intended to do just that. And not to leave out how you have turned me and I'm sure others off of wanting to be a part of this, but because of good people like Ms. Claudia, and the staff of SCS and the other good hearted ones on here, I'm not going to let SOME BAD APPLES, ruin my experience on this site.

Ms. Claudia, again, THANK YOU for all your hard work! May God Bless you in an abundance to keep doing what He has gifted you to do.

And when I "lift" this creation, I will be sure to give YOU the credit for it!:} You deserve it, you are the one that went through all the hard work to present it to us. And I thank you for that!

Please don't listen to all the crap - this is a fantastic tutorial Claudia, I hope this won't deter you from doing more of them!

It's a clear concise tutorial and I can't see how it could be written any other way without changing the meaning of the instructions.
There are only so many ways to make a card so in every case there will be overlaps of wording - if you believe it's a legal matter let the people involved and their lawyers handle things!
Unless you are trained in copyright law you won't know whether this is an infringement so don't mouth off about what you don't fully understand

At 77yrs of age I have never read so many vile comments written by so many self rightous persons,- many hiding behind strange initials, who seem to think they are entitled to critisize others, a question to those people--- are you so perfect?. I think not. Instead - why not submit your versions of the same instructions and show us how it should be done, briefly, and still make sense. I use my daughters computer and 'Webb' and cannot send pictures etc. but really enjoy the site, at least I did but these nasties are making me re-think my need for this unpleasantness.

Thanks, Claudia. I have been making a cut version of this card for about 6 years now, and teaching it to 5th-6th graders - I did not get it from TJ, Anna Griffin but a Hero Arts website. I am sorry that you have been a target - appalled and saddened, really. PM'ing and a simple public thank you would have shown grace and gratitude. A message could have also said "BTW, TJ is a source that I found that we can also credit for the information" with a simple link. All of us have learned/shared techniques through the years simply because we want to share something we love, and I would surmise that in most cases, have been able to credit at least the sourse(s) that we were in contact with - this is an electronic rock-throwing - WWJD? We work very hard at my school to teach forgiveness and grace (and yes, citing) to 11-12 year-olds and this is a lesson that we as a public can learn from in this situation. We should never tear down self-esteem in this way.

Claudia, PLEASE keep submitting work. Many of us send blessings for your day and weekend.

Thank you Claudia. I love the variation which has a "card" in the back. I do a lot of cards for our church and the fact that I can now have a card as well as the pockets will come in handy!

Adorable! I tried it and it worked the first time! Thank you from a former Beverly Hills resident (now relocated to MA). Blessings...

I'm so happy you posted this tutorial, Claudia. My upline returned from the Milwaukee Regional with a sample, but I was stumped on how to make it. I'm going to print it off and use it at my Customer Appreciation event tonight--I'm highlighting ds dsp! Keep up the good work.
