Diagonal Double pocket card

by Claudia Rosa

Create a double pocket card out of one sheet of patterned paper.

Supplies

image
  • One 8 1/2" x 11" piece of patterned Paper

  • Paper scoring tool

  • Scissors

  • Adhesive

  • Ruler

  • Additional cardstock, stamps and embellishments to decorate card front and make inserts.

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Score the long side of the patterned paper at 4 1/4" and fold in half.

  2. Step 2

Turn paper 90 degrees, score short side at 5 1/2" and fold in half.

  3. Step 3

Unfold paper. Cut the horizontal fold from the left edge of the paper to the vertical score line.

  4. Step 4

Fold the bottom right corner so the bottom edge meets the edge of the center score.

  5. Step 5

Fold down the top left corner. Leave 1" - 1 1/2" room from the edge of the folded down corner to the vertical fold.

  6. Step 6

Fold the top left rectangle over to the right hand side.

  7. Step 7

Fold the left bottom rectangle under the folded rectangle on the right bottom.

  8. Step 8

Fold the bottom corner up over the other folded up corner.

  9. Step 9

Add adhesive on the sides of the bottom half and fold it up.

  10. Step 10

Decorate card front and create inserts for the pockets.

    Here the tags measure 2 1/2" x 5" and 1 3/4" x 5".

Variations

  1. After step six, instead of folding the right side under, fold both lower flaps up.

  2. Fold the left quadrant back. Use adhesive to attach loose ends. Now your card will be able to fold open.

Thanks for a great tutorial. Even though I am an ultimate TJN subscriber (please don't hold it against me), I appreciate another version (variations) of this fold. I first saw this fold on Paula Goff's blog from last March http://stampnscrapwithpaula.blogspot.com/2007/03/surprise-saturday.html (so TJN subscribers, please please take a deep breath since clearly that was posted long before it was the Oct/Nov 2007 TJN bonus). It's wonderful that it is now part of the permanent resources here at SCS.

I NEVER comment here, but feel compelled to today after reading such unprofessional rhetoric in a public forum. Nobody stopped to think about how this woud effect all the readers, the poster (Claudia) and those new to this forum. THIS is the reason so many are turned off by participating in these sites - whether defending TJ (never read, never will after this) or not, what you all did was wrong. Have this taken up through proper channels, not on a post that everyone reads. How embarrassing for all of you - step back and remember why we are here. Claudia, you are owed a huge apology - your tutorial was wonderful, and I really hope you come back! As for Beate, she shares so much of herself on this site, she deserves better than what you have done here. If I was the TJ person you are all referring to, I would be mortified that you chose to handle this in this matter.

Love the card. I've seen it somewhere on the web too. I'm not a TJ subscriber, so I can't say anything about all this. However, what does bother me is there were many who wagged a "shame on you" finger to Claudia and SCS for posting this technique. When something someone did bothers me, I tend to bring it to that person's attention. I do not bring it to others. Yes copyright is a valid and serious issue, however, this could have been handled in a positive way by PMing that person or SCS. It didn't have to go online for public consumption! As a new poster here at SCS but a long time visitor, it's attitude like this that shakes my head and wonder when we as adults would ever grow up! It's the the reason why I never joined until recently. As for "she's (Pat) our friend and we wanted to protect her/defend her" that is an excuse for what you did here. If I were Pat, and you told me what you did, I would be appalled! How could it be defending a friend when you are hurting someone who didn't know--because if Claudia or SCS knew this technique had been published by TJ, then they would credit that person. Perhaps next time--if anyone here has a problem dealing with copyright infringement--it be brought to the attention of those that can and will make corrections to see that nothing illegal is done. We can only police ourselves, so let's do that--and not involved the entire SCS community looking for others to join in our bandwagon!

EEEWWW!!! All these people complaining about plaigerism: get a life! It's all art, it's all about creativity and like many of you say, Claudia was just trying to share something with us (I've never even heard of TJ, can you imagine that!). Your meanness is so off-putting. I'm a recent SCS member and avid Beate Johns fan and to read about her hurt feelings just makes me sad. Talk about biting the hand that "feeds" creativity. Honestly, ladies, ease up! This is supposed to be the FUN part of our lives.

Claudia -- Stunning! I personnally don't care where you got it from I'm glad you shared it here as I don't go to too many other sites. Hat's off to you! I can't wait to go home and try to make one.

Um, this technique isn't the property of TJN, I saw this 5 months ago in a magazine and taught it to my cardmaking class.

I appreciate this tutorial being posted on SCS. I can't find my darn magazine (hiding amongst about 100 stamping magazines) now I have an easier reference. Thank you SCS and thank you Claudia!

"Technique Junkies" need to get over themselves and stop trying to be so original. YOURE NOT! They are just jealous of SCS.

Awesome tutorial! Thank you for sharing! I have a question! I'm noticing that a lot of people are saying that Claudia should have given credit to Pat from tmj, but what if that is not where Claudia got the idea from. Hypthetical questions here. ---What if she got it from a friend or a friend of a friend and didn't know that it was in this publication. What if the wording was given to her by a friend who gave her permssion to use the wording exactly! What if this friend who gave her the wording didn't know where it had come from. Would the credit line have to be I got this tutorial idea from my friend Sally Stamper who got it from her friend Susie Stamper, who got it from an e-mail that was forwarded by someone who got it off the internet. The tutorial on the internet was taken from a stamper who got it from a friend.....and so on! How do we know that this idea was taken "STRAIGHT" from this newsletter that everyone keeps talking about. Maybe it was word for word, but do we know absolutely that it hadn't been handed down many times before it got to Claudia! I just think that there are so many questions that need to be answered before we can accuse anyone of doing anything WRONG. I am not trying to be confrontational, just wondering is all!

Claudia, Thanks for the tutorial. You did a wonderful job. I have never posted anything to this board but have got some ideas from it. What I see here is not what I would have expected from a board like this one..I will be hard pressed to ever comment on anything here. IF this is the way that SU consultants support one another I definitely will reconsider buying anything from a SU consultant again.

I am glad Stacy wrote what she did. I had never heard of TJ and was certain I didn't want to ever go on their website due to how their members acted. Claudia, please continue the good work on SCS. I am a newbie and need the help!

Hi Claudia,
Just wanted to thank you so much for the card. I just love it! I also want you to know that it really saddens and disappoints me that such ugly comments have been directed towards you. I think that a few of the comments were well meaning, but the bulk of them were mean spirited. When I see messages such as some of the ones here it becomes crystal clear why there is so much war and destruction in the world. It is a sad state of affairs when people get this worked up over the origin of a card. There are so many kind hearted people who visit this site! I hope that this type of feedback will not occur frequently because it diminishes the overall positive content of this site.

I made a double pocket card for a birthday card over a year ago for my stepdad. Perhaps Claudia wrote the tutorial, perhaps not; credit should be given to the originator of the idea.

Could you really brush all those nasty, hateful comments off in a day or two? What a shame!
I loved the tutorial. It's an adorable card. Will definitely be trying it.
Hope to see you again, Claudia. tfs!

OH my, my,my. You know all of those people out there that are "saddened and disappointed" are just heartbreaking. What a life tragedy this is! There certainly is alot of energy in those comments. Ladies with all that energy maybe you could put it to good use and do some work in you community or do something to help save our planet. Do you honestly believe that any of these techniques are new? Come on.... By the way it sure sounds like we have alot of lawyers on this site.
