Crimped Envelope Pocket Card

by Theresa Momber

Create a pouch out of a regular envelope.

Supplies

  • A2 size Envelope

  • Paper Trimmer

  • Crimper

  • Adhesive

  • Stamps>>(Gina K. stamp set A Year of Flowers used here)

  • Cardstock (for insert)

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

    Seal the envelope.

Use your paper trimmer to cut 1 1/4" from one of the short sides of the envelope.

The narrow piece will be the topper and the larger piece will be the crimped pocket portion of the card.

  2. Step 2

Decorate both pieces with stamps, keeping in mind that the bottom piece will be crimped and the images may be slightly distorted.

  3. Step 3

Place the larger piece into the crimping tool with the opening to the side, and crimp.

  4. Step 4

Add stamped/cut images, die cuts and embellishments as desired.

  5. Step 5

To create the insert, cut a piece of card stock to 4" by 4 1/4".

For a layered look, cut additional pieces slightly smaller.

  6. Step 6

Stamp and embellish insert as desired.

  7. Step 7

As a variation you can scale the project down to create gift card holder.

Questions and Comments

We'd love to get your feedback or questions. Leave your comment below.

Birdtracks - I sponged around the outside of the envelope with Regal Rose ink and then stamped some foliage using Tropical Flowers (Gina K), also with Regal Rose ink. Then I crimped. If you want to emphasize the texture of the crimping, you could do some more light sponging after crimping. smile

I have seen this done in a #10 size envelope. I like this better.

A follow-up to Birdtracks question on the sponging - What type of sponge do you use? I love to sponge, but mine always seems to have lines in it instead of the wonderful fade effect that you on the card. Any tips?

Rebecca - I use round craft sponges, like those carried by Stampin' Up or found at Michaels. I have found that soft sponges and working with a very dry sponge works best for me. I ink up my sponge and then pat off a bit on scratch paper before sponging. I also work in circles, rather than swiping or pouncing.

There is a great thread on the subject of sponging going on right now. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=417173

Theresa, I already had to try this! SO much fun! Thanks for sharing! I have loaned out my crimper, so I used my cuttlebug instead and it worked well too. Thanks for the tutorial! Beautiful work!

Thank you for the additional info on the adhesive for crimped papers.
Also, just received a Paper wishes catalog that had ribbon that looked like what you used. It is called "organdy swirl ribbon" and comes in variety pk. You can also find at paperwishes.com.

I am thinking of using this idea for a shower invitation. What adhesive do you use for your ribbon that does not show through?

I want to say that I am new to stamping but think I would love to try this for the girls that work with me. I have to come up with special things once a month and I really think I can do this. Thanks for the idea. I love it..
