  1. Holiday Shapes, Borders, and Frames . . . Oh, My!

    By Rose Ann Reynolds

I'm so happy to be reviewing Spellbinders dies once again, and they certainly did not disappoint! It's all about holiday dies this time around, and they look and perform beautifully.

I was thrilled to receive Pine Trees Shapeabilities, Snowflake Borderabilities and Snowflake Frameabilities. My favorite in the group is the Nested Pine Trees Shapeabilities. I love making shaped cards, and I made a pine tree shaped card, quickly and easily. The Snowflake Borderabilities and Frameabilities coordinate very well with each other, and give you so many options for different projects. I love using the frames from the Snowflake Frameabilities to create snowy scenes with my stamped images, and the Snowflake Borderabilities are very pretty and versatile with the different snowflakes and edges you can use.

I highly recommend the new holiday dies to use with all of your seasonal projects!

  2. Get in the Holiday Spirit with Spellbinders

    By Ashley Newell

Spellbinders provides numerous ways to die cut, stencil, and emboss paper crafting projects. Their new holiday collection offers a seasonal option for crafters. To start, I received a large Borderabilities. The 12" grand border dies give crafters the option of creating longer decorative borders on their projects. These dies are perfect for 12" x 12" scrapbook layouts and long cards. However, even if you want to use them on your cards, simply trim the border to fit your layout. On the vine border grand Borderabilities is great for any time of the year because it is a decorative vine, but it truly fits the autumn season at its best. The embossing and stenciling options can make the vine look more dimensional. At first, the 12" border die can be intimidating, especially if you only have short cutting mats; however, you can die cut/emboss an entire 12" strip of cardstock using short cutting mats by running the border through the machine twice. It works great.

I also received Borderabilities Petites, which allow crafters to create a border and stencil a pattern on their cards. Using the Poinsettia and Stars Borderabilities Petites, I was able to create fun decorative edges and/or patterns using the stenciling option. Both Borderabilities Petite dies can easily be used throughout the year. The Poinsettia Borderabilities Petite die can be used because the flower can be any type of flower on your project. The Stars Borderabilities petite die features stars and dotted swirls that can be festive for many occasions.

Last, the nested maple leaves are a great set of Shapeabilities to have in your die collection. The leaves come in various sizes and the embossing feature is amazing. The embossed texture makes the leaves pop on projects. Using felt, you can die cut the leaves, perhaps by die cutting a couple of times, but I was able to get a clean cut. I recommend checking out Spellbinders new seasonal die collection for your holiday projects and more.

  3. Holiday Fun with Spellbinders

    By Beate Johns

I am a big fan of all Spellbinders die templates, so I was very excited to hear that we would have a chance to review some of their seasonal dies. I received the Harvest Border dies. I love that they match the nested Leaves and Pumpkins. I didn't receive those, but have already ordered them! These Borderabilities give your cards a wonderful finish, perfect for the Thanksgiving season. Another great thing about them is that you will get tiny leaf/pumpkin die cuts that you can either raise over your border to highlight, or use separately on your sentiments or insides of your cards.

I also received the Holiday Cheer Shapes. They are adorable and include a candy cane, stocking and Santa hat. I used them on cards, but can see them being used for adorable Christmas pages.

I did borrow the Pumpkin Nestabilities to create a shaker card. I do love how easy frames are cut with the nested images.

As I said, I love all Spellbinder products. These Seasonal Dies were no exception. This review did give me the push to order most of their Seasonal shapes before they aren't available anymore.

  4. More Must-Have Versatile Dies

    By Angel Wilde

Spellbinders continues to produce the coolest dies on the market. Their latest seasonal collection is certainly no exception. I was very excited to learn we would be reviewing some of these latest dies.

From their newest fall release, I had the opportunity to work with Pumpkin Nestabilities and Harvest Borders. The Pumpkin set will cut 5 different sized pumpkins and they look adorable cut out of traditional orange cardstock as well as patterned papers. Because they are incredibly versatile, you always get your money’s worth from any Spellbinders purchase!

From the Christmas collection, I worked with the Poinsettia Frameabilities as well as the Holiday Lights Grand Borderabilities. When they say “Grand,” they mean it. At 12” it is perfect for a scrapbook page, but I easily cut it down to 5 ½” for a charming Christmas card. The Poinsettia Frameabilities feature 4 fabulous dies, but if you use the 2 frames at the same time, you’ll also get another frame and an oval die cut from the excess. See what I mean about versatile?

As with all Spellbinders dies, they are only a flat piece of metal, so storage is never an issue. You’ll always have room for more!

  5. SPELLBINDERS - MAKING HOLIDAY TREASURES!

    By Mary Brown

Don't you just LOVE this time of year? I know I do! I just love making things for Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! Well, Spellbinders has come out with a series of limited edition dies designed to help us create those special treasures for this time of year. I just LOVE the Nestabilities Pumpkins! Five different sizes for so many projects and tags. I just loved using these along with the Impressabilities plates to make textured pumpkins! The Harvest Borders are a perfect accompaniment to the pumpkins! With a leaf and a pumpkin design, it is perfect for this time of year. Need some nice holiday tags? Try the Holiday Cheer dies with the candy cane, Santa hat and stocking dies. These will make a nice size tag for that special holiday gift!

But I have to tell you my very favorite...Spellbinders Poinsettia Grand Borderabilities! And GRAND is the perfect way to describe it...this border is LARGE! The border is designed to create 12" x 12" borders and is around 2 1/2" high. There is nothing understated about it. The other thing I REALLY like about this is how the poinsettia petals work. They are partially cut so they don't come all the way out but allow the ends of the petals to stick out. When I first saw this die, I thought I was going to have to mess with a lot of little pieces. NO LITTLE PIECES AT ALL!!! I chose to stencil to add color to mine and loved the final look. Now the other thing you will notice is that the border is so long and your plates to put through the Wizard are so small. Do not worry. Just work in sections. I started with 'cutting' the first half of the border, moved my magnetic sheet and ran through again to finish cutting my piece. Next I took away my magnetic sheet and changed to my rubber embossing sheet. Using the same technique I embossed the border without any problems. So don't let the size intimidate you...this poinsettia grand border is truly GRAND!!!!

Spellbinders has done it again with another wonderful collection of dies and borders to help you create holiday treasures!

  6. Spellbinders Does It Again!

    By Jeni Allen

Spellbinders Holiday Dies are awesome! Keeping with the great attention to detail and great products that we've all come to expect from Spellbinders, their new Holiday dies do not disappoint! They are delicious in every way. The Holiday dies include perfect fall and winter shapes for all of your crafting needs!

One of the things that I love about Spellbinders nesting dies, is simply that. They nest and give you several size options! The great shape of the dies make them wonderful for a card, scrapbook page, a tag for some cookies, or a fun table setting idea! They have such limitless possibilities...the Holiday collection dies make a perfect addition to your collection of affordable dies! I have turned to Spellbinders Nestabilities to help me save space. I have about 30 (shhhh don't tell...) sets of Nestabilities and they all fit in a CD book that I created and fit in a drawer! Punches are much more bulky and take up so much space, not to mention that they are heavy, too! And when looking at the price of one punch vs. a set of maybe 5 or 6 nesting dies, Nestabilities allow my crafting dollar to go further! The space that the Nestabilities save and affordability of each set of dies makes them something that everyone can enjoy!

I had the chance to play with the Poinsettia and Maple Leaf dies, as well as the Poinsettia and Star Borderabilities. I love the great focal point that these shaped dies offer your card or other crafting medium! The simple design and classic shapes really make them a snap to use! The Borderabilities coordinate perfectly with the Nestabilities and work great together! I love the possibility of cutting, embossing, and using the dies as a stencil. They really allow for as much creative juice as you can muster!

As you can tell, I have a soft spot in my heart for Spellbinders Nestabilities. They are a great bang for your buck and they will add tremendous possibilities to your crafting!

Questions and Comments

What do you think? Leave your comments and questions.

What kind of machine do you use these templates in?  Brand?  or brands?

Lorrie   |  Wed Oct 28, 2009 at 8:16 PM

Hi Lorrie,
In both video the Wizard was used with the templates. But Spellbinder dies work with most die cut machines: Cuttlebug, Big Shot, Sizzix, Revolution…the dies come with “sandwich” instructions for these machines.

I received the pointsettia shapabilities for Christmas, and am having trouble knowing just what to use in my Big Shot Sizzix; that is how to layer everything in order of how to layer the necessary items to cut the poinsettia.  Thank you so much.
