Melted Crayon Background

by Beate Johns

This is a fun technique for all those crayons your kids leave lying around. I used Metallic Crayons for special shine.

Supplies

image

Crayons

Aluminum Foil

Iron

Cardstock (plain, not glossy)

Step By Step

Step 1

Step 1.
Cover your iron with aluminum foil and set on no steam. Heat to medium.

Step 2

Step 2.
Once the iron is hot, scribble the crayons of your choice over the aluminum foil.

Step 3

Step 3.
Rub your cardstock over the melted crayon.

Step 4

Step 4.
Repeat steps two and three until your background has the look you want.

Step 5

Step 5.
Use the melted crayon as a background for your card. I stamped my butterflies in Craft black ink and let dry. Then I ripped the paper and layered it.

Variations

Make it really sparkle!
Glitter crayons would look great with this technique.

Wax paper method
Cover your ironing board with wax paper. Put the cardstock down and add crayon shavings on top. Cover this with another piece of wax paper. Iron over the wax paper until the crayon is melted.
