Glitter Puzzle
by Beate Johns
Add a lot of sparkle to your cards with this technique.
Supplies
Xyron™ machine with permanent sticker cartridge
Hobby knife or other cutting tool like Coluzzle™
Glitter in 2 or 3 different colors
Stazon™
Acetate
Eyelets or ribbon (or both)
Cardstock
Stamps
Step By Step
Step 1.
Run a piece of cardstock through the Xyron. This will be the glitter puzzle base.
Step 2.
Trim coated backing from around the base and peel off the crinkled plastic.
Leave the coated backing in place. It's protecting the sticky side.
Step 3.
Cut a design into the coated backing with a hobby knife. Be sure to cut all the way through, but not into the cardstock base.
Step 4.
Peel the coated backing from one or two puzzle pieces.
Step 5.
Add the first color of glitter to the sticky area.
Step 6.
Spread glitter and pat down so that it sticks well.
Tap off excess glitter and put it back into the container.
Step 7.
Repeat Steps 4 thru 6 with a second color of glitter (I used Dazzling Diamonds™ for this step).
Step 8. (Optional)
Repeat again with a third color of glitter.
When the whole piece of cardstock is covered with glitter, set it aside.
Step 9.
Take a piece of acetate that is the same size as your glitter puzzle base and stamp images on it. Be sure to let it dry completely before continuing to the next step.
Step 10.
Use eyelets, ribbon or both to secure the acetate piece directly over the glittered puzzle base.
Step 11.
Finish your card.
Variations
Run a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of cardstock through the Xyron and cut out the middle to make a glittery frame for your card. You won't have to use acetate and stazon then.
Instead of making an acetate overlay, just add a greeting over it.
Use a Coluzzle to make a polkadotted pattern.
Use Pearl Ex® instead of glitter.
