This is such a cool technique to create a very unique leathery look. I love this in warm earth colors, but I've seen great cards with other colors as well.
Step 1.
Take a piece of cardstock and cover it with small pieces of masking tape. Make sure that the entire piece is covered with masking tape and no cardstock shows. I use small pieces. I think it looks nicer.
Step 2.
Use your first color of ink and rub your pad all over the masking tape card. I used a spectrum pad to get all different kinds of colors.
Step 3.
If you're not pleased with the look, sponge a different color on top of what you have. After I used the Late November Spectrum Pad©, I used More Mustard© and then Really Rust© ink.
Step 4.
Cover the entire piece of masking tape cardstock with clear embossing powder and heat it. (The powder should adhere to the texture of the tape so no embossing ink/Versamark© is needed)
Step 5.
Finish your card! Use the finished background any way you like. I used the Coluzzle© and made a frame out of it.
