Okay, for those of you who are very confused by this card, here is my story (to borrow a line from Mothermark - thanks, Cindy!):
My oldest son, Devan, left to serve a two-year mission for the LDS Church on Wednesday - 8/29/07 (sniff! sniff! - he will be serving in Germany - Munich/Austria area). I have vowed to send him a card a week. Upon further contemplation, I decided to send him a card with at least ONE butterfly image in it every week (that would be, um . . . 104 butterfly cards! Yikes!). The reason for the butterfly is that his nickname, since he was little, is Butterfly Boy (comes from when we were at Lake Powell and his older cousin, Nathan, started teasing him that he looked like a butterfly with his life jacket on - you know the ones with the little pillow flap behind the head? He HATED the name, but grew to love it over time).
Fast forward . . . trying to think of a card today that would have butterflies on it and that he would like (he has, after all, only been gone two days!). My kids and I are fabulous Harry Potter fans. They found some little animated shorts called "Potter Puppet Pals." They are so cute and silly! This card is an homage to one of those animated shorts (which in their later incarnations became actual puppet shows!).
Here is a link to one called "Trouble at Hogwarts":

Oh I love this card!!! Being a HUGE HP fan myself...ahem...I knew right away where this was from, also being a YouTube junkie...lol. It also reminds me of HP&TCOS (Chamber of Secrets) when Ron is terrified to follow the spiders and says "Follow the spiders, why couldn't it be follow the butterflies!" LOL! See, I know my HP lines! ;) This one is SO in my faves! Mind if I case it? ;) OH LORD YOU GAVE ME IDEAS!!! Thanks!

Awesome!! I love Harry Potter Puppet Pals so your card delighted me. I think my favorite is The Mysterious Ticking Noise. Sometimes I get my kids to sing the different parts with me while we're riding in the car. We're total nerds, I know.

funny, now I get it. You did good with the character. What a mom will do for her beloved son. That's so cool that you are going to make 104 cards for all the time he'll be spending out there. Now, what would be the coolest, is for you to get a picture of him and those when he gets back. Just an idea, I'd love to see what it might look like.

We know all about the HP shorts- how funny! Wonderful card, wonderful story. All the best to you as you adjust to life with a son in Europe. All the best to your butterfly boy as he embarks on a life-changing trip.

Now I know why so many of your cards have butterflies. Quite a challenge. I've done a card a week to my Mom for about 5 years now. And she loves, loves butterflies--hates dragonflies and yellow--but loves butterflies. Now that she is doing poorly, healthwise, I want to celebrate her and her love of butterflies. I may do a challenge to myself like yours.
Thanks for the inspiration.

I am so glad you shared this link. I didn't know this. What a sweet and special thing you have done for your son. I can't imagine how hard it has been. Great job. You are almost there.

And now he's home! Were you able to send him one butterfly card a week?
