What a great challenge - I found it so hard to decide what way to go. In the end I used butterfly DP to create a Floating Strips (Floating Strips Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers ) circle, from which I cut a larger butterfly shape. I put the acetate over a sheet of grid paper, which makes lining the strips up evenly easy to do.
I stuck the solid green butterfly to the card base and attached the gold outline at the body only. Added a die-cut sentiment, and since it looked a little bare I trawled through my box and found just enigh gold corner stickers.

Beautiful butterfly background paper as the base of your floating strips - so pretty!! And, that elegant green butterfly ensconced in gold sits upon the floating circle so regally. Very pretty card!

OMGoodness, what a gorgeous creation this is! Love the technique you used to create the focal point, may have to give it a try. Very clever to line it up on grid paper!
