WoooHooo it's Tickle a Teapotter time of the month and Jean aka jkanack has us exploring the architectural works of Frank Lloyd Wright.
When reading about Frank my eyes were immediately drawn to the words "Organic Architecture". In my little world "organic" is code for "weird" and I love everything that is weird and a bit out there.
I used the photo as inspiration, suspending a window in one of the corners and placing two houses up in the trees. The staircases are actually die cut fences - I hope Frank would approve.
Before I cut and scored the cardstock into a tri-shutter fold, I coloured and stamped all of the background first. Smack distress ink onto smooth sheet of aluminium foil, squirt on a heap of water and use a foam blending tool to mop up the inky water and blend on to the cardstock.
While the background was drying, I printed the houses on to copy paper, then coloured them with Prismacolour Pencils, Zest it Pencil Blend and highlighted with Copics and Stickles. Because the houses needed a bit more strength than copy paper, I used a glue stick to adhere them to scraps of cardstock, then fussy cut.
I die cut some trees and fences, dunking them into a puddle of distress inks and water. When everything was nice and dry, I glued everything in place. I was hoping to keep the double window in tact, but it proved too difficult. I did what any self respecting organic architect would do - chopped it down the middle and said I did it on purpose. That will be an extra $10,000 thank you!
The cardstock was a bit floppy on the outer edges, so I have reinforced some of the panels at the back. When folded this card fits inside a protective 5"x 7" card base and the long fence in the middle has a bend in it so the recipient can reposition it.
Thanks so much for looking and I hope you get a chance to get inky with the Teapotters.

OUTSTANDING, OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD WEIRD!!! Susie, your fairy tree house is soooooo delightful! Love your story and your $10,000 overcharge! Collars and details are just too exquisite to find words for. I WANT it too! You may have to reproduce these into copy-cat tract homes...shame on me...this can NOT be a tract home!
My DD#2 who is expecting in March, went to a treehouse on their honeymoon. The treehouse "hotel" is located in Fall City, WA not far from Carla and I in a lovely forest of old growth trees...many of those in Washington! They were marvelous, but did not hold a candle to yours, lovely lady!
