This is my card for CC603. I am your hostess this week and the color combo is real red, hello honey, Cajun craze, old olive and tangelo twist. You have the option to use all 5 or pick just 3. Dessert is to make a fall scene. I am giving you all the colors to do just that.
I knew the images I was going to use for my card but I was undecided on the background. I decided to try my hand with the Distress Crayons. I found these 18 of these at a garage sale recently for only $5. What a find for me!!!
So here are my background details: I used some Distress watercolor cardstock and applied a layer of clear Gesso to prepare the paper.
After that dried I applied the distress crayons in fossilized amber, spiced marmalade, mustard seed and peeled paint. Used my finger and a little water to spread the color around.
I let that dry and then took the sun-ray stencil laid it over top of the color and a wet (but not soaking) paper towel. I followed the stencil layout and started to remove color. I was really pleased how this turned out. Especially since it was my first attempt with these crayons. I did make another one and didn't use the Gesso layer. The color is much subtler. Just depends what you are looking for with your color.
The fall scene was created with the CottageCutz Harvest Scarecrow die. I cut all the pieces in the challenge colors plus the neutrals. I didn't add a sentiment to the front but I will on the inside. It will be a Thanksgiving card for my sweet little granddaughter.
My card size is 5 ¾" x 4 ½". To create that size using 8 ½" x 11" paper, I did a hinge technique. There is info on this blog post of mine on how to create the hinge.
That's my sample for this week. I hope you will find the time to join us. Check out the other DT samples for more inspiration.
