Loll Thompson posts the CAS challenges on the Happy Little Stamper blog and this month she asked me to be her Guest Designer. The challenge this month is sponging on a CAS card - any sponging technique you like. Here's the link for the challenge if you want to play along:
And unbeknownst to me, this week's SCS CAS challenge is "for the birds" so it's perfect for it too. It's also for the Virginia's View challenge "All things embossed" and the Less is More challenge "This makes me happy!" (blue skies and birds in my garden in the winter make me happy, as does anything in blue and white, my favourite colour combination).
For my Guest Designer sponged card for Happy Little Stampers, I chose to use a masking fluid and heat embossed resist behind my sponged sky.
I used Gina K's luxury white cs as it responds very well to sponging and allows perfect blending.
I started by stamping and heat embossing the branch in white and then flicking masking fluid over the panel. When dry, I sponged with four shades of blue ink, starting with the lightest over the whole card, then coming in with each of the darker ones, ending up with the darkest around the edges. When the ink was dry, I rubbed off the masking fluid to reveal the white specks of snowflakes, and wiped the embossed branch clean.
I die cut several little birds and a sentiment out of shimmery white cs. The panel is popped up on the cardbase with dimensionals.
My parents live in Ontario and are having a very long, cold, and snowy winter so I thought I'd send the card to them to remind them how beautiful winter can be, even if it goes on too long!
