This is my card for the MIX 108 challenge "Brown Paper Collage". Dini showed us a wonderful collage piece and linked to the artist's site, and asked us to create a card with the following elements:
1. brown paper as the base (so use a paper bag or kraft paper)
2. a painted, printed or sponged background (masked hills seem common to many of her pieces)
3. hand cut or die cut elements to finish the scene, cut from text paper (phone book, newsprint, magazine or book pages)
I began by placing the die on Crumb Cake cs and masking around the edges with painter's tape so I would know where to paint. I brayered the open area with white pigment ink, and cut masks for the hills while waiting for it to dry. I also cut out the die using text paper which had been adhered to cs for added stability. The two smaller deer and small tree are all connected to the frame or each other; I cut them apart so I could position them where I wanted and sponged with Distress inks.
I placed my masks over the painted area and sponged the sky with Broken China, the hills were sponged with Broken China and an a tiny bit of Black Soot. I adhered the edges of the frame to the painted area with Sookwang Tape and slid some Fast Grab beneath the large deer and the trees attached to the frame. The small tree and the other deer were also attached with Fast Grab.
The star was cut from a scrap, painted with clear Gelly Roll Stardust pen and added to the sky.
I love this technique - It just looks so awesome! Thanks, Dini!
As always, thanks for looking!
