This is my last sample card as a Sketch Challenge Design Team member; it sure has been a lot of fun! This sketch is from Janette, and this card especially comes from my heart. My son moved out at 18 to his own place and job instead of college. It was a really hard time for me right before he moved out as it was soooooo clear that he didn't want to be with us at that point in time. It has been about a year and a half, and he is now deciding that he wants to go to college in the fall and asked if he could move home until then. Um, let me think about that....YES!!!! So, this is in celebration of my DS back under our roof!
I made a 5x7 card and my oval is oversized, but I wanted to fit the entire blueprint image. I stamped it in Midnight Muse then stamped my clear stamp letters in Onyx, curving them around the top edge of my oval. I sponged chalk ink through dry wall mesh to add some more color and texture. It still needed a little something else so I decided to add some hearts and what is more homey than gingham? I sponged a bit around the edges of those in Real Red. My bg and strip are dry embossed. I used a piercing tool and added my screw brads in the corners. I stuck a big bag of my son's favorite Twizzlers inside and it made a nice tangible way to welcome him home.

Thanks for sharing your heart with us, Gail! When our last son left home (at 22) I wondered how I would cope with the empty nest syndrome, but I have to say that it didn't take long at all to adjust. And thank you for all your inspiration these last few months. This is a beautiful way to welcome your son back into the "fold"! A little pun there.

Gail, I love your sample. It's beautifully executed and as I read your story I understand why. Our DD is just about to turn 18 and I am so relieved she's staying home to attend school locally for the next year or so. So we are just delaying that separation. We are all happy to share the news that your son has voluntarily returned home to your open arms. Enjoy the time.

What a sweet story to go with your wonderful card. I have a 19 year old who is married, so he won't come home. I feel your pain and joy. He's coming to visit tomorrow from Austin, TX. Your card is just lovely with all its added details.
