My friend and I visited a flea market where a man was selling plaques made with license plate pieces. He also sold individual letters to make your own art. My friend wanted to make a gift for my DD and her husband so we grabbed the letters for her new last name. I found a wall plaque I'd set aside to repurpose. We started by covering the base with dp with some torn edges and she also sponged the edges with Soft Suede. Our friendly neighborhood hardware store man helped us find just the right tacks to use. We punched the holes in the license plate pieces with my Crop-a-dial and nailed the tacks to the base (my friend's hubby even got involved by helping hold the nails in place while she hammered!). I cut a couple of flourishes from a coffee sleeve from their college coffee shop and the twine in the buttons is burlap from a coffee bean sack my SIL gave me. She added a torn vellum sentiment that she also sponged. We layered a couple of corner embellishments that were leather and metal in each corner. We took it to my daughter's place and she loved it!!!

Oh my goodness gracious me, this is fantastic. I enjoyed your little story too. I love it when a creation has "history". This is going into My Favs right now.TFS

WOW! So creative and wonderful!!! All the time and effort that went into this one of a kind masterpiece was well worth it! Just think about where all those plates have traveled or how many people had that plate at one time or another. Plus it looks FANTASTIC and truly a very special gift!!! So AWESOME thank you for sharing this treasure!!!
