WOW! What a thrill to be joining this wonderful DIRTY group of talents! Thank you, Lydia, for inviting me & for this special opportunity. I'm completely humbled. These next 6 months as a DD Girl will be challenging, but also rewarding because I love this great SCS community!
Hi! My name is America Kuhn; I am a US Army Veteran, a Military Wife & a SAHM to 4 amazing children. Our home is where the ARMY takes us around the globe. I'm the luckiest because we manage to make a little crafting corner for me wherever we get stationed. yay! When I'm not busy with my kids, schools, homework, sports & endless activities, I enjoy being creative. Card Making is my passion. It's a great therapeutic hobby that has connected me to many fabulous crafters along the way!
My paper crafting journey began in 2002 when I was introduced to scrapbooking by another military mom while stationed overseas in Germany. The idea of scrapbooks coming together to tell a story from start to finish was fascinating, and so, I was hooked. By that next year, and another military move, I discovered rubber stamps while shopping for scrapbooking products in Hawaii. It was right there and then that I fell in love with the art of rubber stamping & cards. (A heavy stamp collection started that continues to move with us to new duty stations.)
I came across SplitCoastStampers in 2008, while surfing the web & was instantly hooked. I joined as a FAN Club Member and watched in awe as other talented card makers uploaded. They inspired and helped me to develop some basic skills. Soon after I had gained enough courage to upload my first card! It was so much fun & rewarding to read all the surprising encouragement from our awesome SCS'ers, (and my DH who has always been my biggest fan). Soon after, I applied for small parts on Design Teams & have been lucky enough to get picked up here and there. Joining Teams as a Guest or a DT is the best way to meet crafters with the same passion while gaining amazing experiences. I'm forever grateful to SCS. Very excited to join the DD & can't wait to share my work as I give back to this amazing inspiring community. Thank you SCS!

What a great story America. I loved every part of it. Felt like I was taking trips with you to far distant lands and back again. It must be rough with your DH in Afghanistan and to be gone so long. It truly is a sacrifice for all of you and I thank you all. My DH has been deployed since May and is due back next month (Navy). He'll have his 20 years in, so will be retiring and then looking for another job. I think he's been gone half or more of our marriage. I hope we like each other!! LOL!! I am SO HAPPY to see you were selected to be part of the Dirty Dozen. How cool is that. Your talent is extraordinary and I can't wait to see what new things you will come up with. TAKE CARE and ENJOY!!

Welcome to the Dirty Dozen, America! I loved reading your little bio and hearing your story of how you got your name and the travails and joys of being a military spouse. I can definitely relate to that...like you I was active duty and married an active duty guy. We are now both retired from the Navy but have a son in the AF and a son in the Army. Having seen life from the perspective of Navy, Air Force and Army, I have to say that it seems Army life is the toughest, I only hope our "Army spouse" DIL adjusts half as well as you have.
Can't wait to see all of your wonderful creations....and welcome to the Dirty Dozen! Jan
