This is for TLC265 to create a project that brings back a childhood memory. Some of the most memorable times of my childhood took place on our annual summer vacations to Cape Hatteras, NC. My parents adored the quite, uncommercialized island and it's wild and rough ocean water. We four girls thought our father could do anything as he taught us all how to surf fish for flounder and to ride the bronco like waves. Our mother was a master fisherman as well but her main job was trying to keep hats on our heads to keep from burning our faces off. Each year we would go to the Hatteras Light and climb up for the fantastic view of the island from the top. These memories never grow old as we four girls now celebrate our parents each year by returning to Cape Hatteras for our summer vacation. We live in four different states and it is our guarantee and promise to each other that we will all enjoy each other's company under the same roof at least once a year. My parents are always there with us in spirit and we never tire of repeating our stories year after year of daddy chasing after us down the beach to scare us with a crab or letting us ride on his back in the ocean. I never tire of the smell of fried potatoes and flounder cooking on our camp stove in mothers old iron skillet. There isn't anything in this life that could replace those memories except creating for our next generation.

What a sweet memory, Kittie. So glad your mom wouldnt let you sit out in the broiling Cape Hatteras sun long enough to burn your face off! Funny, I never heard of Cape Hatteras until we moved to NC. We have a family tradition very close to CH. Our family has gotten together the past 4 years to rent a home in Corolla/Duck, which is the exact opposite direction from CH. Everyone enjoys the water, the waves, the breezes just like your family! We definitely have something in common here.
