The challenge Dawn posted was to have a black based card with a fair amount of black showing. Thanks for the challenge Dawn!
-The horse is stamped first.
-Tear a piece of paper and position it on the panel to cover the sky area. I hold the main panel down on a larger piece of paper with reposition tape and mine is just the blue painterÂ’s tape you can find at a hardware store. Then the torn paper gets set into place with more tape.
-Rub the black ink pad directly onto the white panel until itÂ’s the darkness you prefer.
-Now remove the torn paper and add the plants.
-Punch a circle from a sticky note and place it on the panel where you want your sun to be.
-Brayer using the multi colored Big and Juicy (happy birthday) ink pad. I used one end of the stamp pad to ink up my brayer. Roll on the cardstock panel and repeat inking up until you have the desired depth of color.
-Remove the sticky note and sponge on color for the sun.
-There was a line in my brayer work that I couldnÂ’t seem to work out, no problemÂ…I just added the cactus to cover it. This is why I mainly switched from the brayer to sponging for the width of the card. A fatter brayer would be the answer to that problem! So I stamped, colored with Prismacolor pencils and cut out the cactus and added it for dimension and a cover up of the line. It gives the effect of the cactus being closer to the viewerÂ…the viewer is probably the cowboy that should be sitting in that saddle!
-Faux stitching was then added using the Stampin Up mat pack for holes and Sakura gel pen for stitches.
-Layer the card and add the brads before mounting the panel to the base.
-To make the color I wanted for colored the borders, I sponged the distress ink onto white paper.
This looks like a lot of steps but itÂ’s actually a very fast procedure.
I canÂ’t give credit for the brayed sky to anyone famous here at SCS because my very first upload was this procedure way back in 2004, I donÂ’t want anyone to think IÂ’m using her procedure and not giving credit. Wow, that stamp pad is really old!

Roxi,
I am truly a horse-nut fan! This card is so cool! Love it! I have done some brayering, and I'm still trying to get better at it! This card is a fav for me! Thanks for explaining how you did everything!
You rock!
