This is for Robin's fun free For All Friday challenge SNOW!! There is no desert for me, not one of these dudettes is wearing a ribbon.
I have been reading about the different qualities of water colour paper and the effect that the quality has on the finished results. I have several different brands, I can't pronounce them as I don't speak Chinese, however the pictures of children finger painting on the front covers will give you a hint as to the quality LOL.
The usual Smack & Squirt technique was done - smack distress ink pads onto aluminium foil, squirt on a lot of water. I dunked the water colour paper in it first, followed by a piece of smooth white cardstock. I redunked the water colour paper, but it continued to be very light.
When both papers were dry I stamped lots of birds. Thank goodness for MISTI, I think I restamped all the images about 6 times. I always stamp as many images as there is room for on the paper - keep the left overs in my stash.
The background was done with the Smack & Squirt technique, but I also added a few drops of Izink to the background puddle. I also sprinkled some Brusho powder on the cardstock and blasted it with more water. This was all done on an A4 sheet of cardstock, so I have 2 panels to add to my stash.
The bird bodies were fussy cut and stuck onto the coloured panel. I also stamped the birds directly onto the background so I didn't have to fussy cut (amputate) their feet. The snow (Dylsuions paint) was added by using the blunt end of a paint brush.
Thank you for looking, I hope you get some time to join in. The challenge details are here.

OMG! This is so cute, Susie! Those poor little purple popsicle birds. And the one toasty orange one. He must have just flown in from the tropics. My poor Linus (the mini macaw) is acting like we're freezing him out. So we put a little extra room heater in his room. Now that room feels like the tropics, lol.

I LOVE your bunched up bird friends. The background and birds are so colorful. I had so much fun reading your description Susie. I love your colors, doodling and added snow too. Boy, that was a lot of fussy cutting too. I just got both these bird sets :-) You have totally inspired me my friend. Big Squishy Hug, nancyP.S. The Squibbly Birds are by our own SCS Dina Wakely :-) You can get thru Impression Obsession or Amazon. There are 4 birds and 3 sentiments in the set!

Susie...I Love your cute little herd of birdies!!! I'm thinking the five little purple ones must be visitors from out of town. Probably from somewhere down South. I believe purple is the color you turn after you've turned blue and had your little buns (or is it bums?) frozen solid. I can see by their quirky little smiles that they don't want to let on that they'd rather be anywhere but out in the snow. That would be rude.
Actually, your background makes the snow look quite inviting. Beautiful coloring! I'm sure those little guys will just tough it out and enjoy the scenery, snow and all.

Love these birds! Your smack & squirt technique produces beautiful backgrounds. I will have to try it (although I'm sure I'll need a LOT of practice to get mine to look as nice.) Fabulous card!
