This card was made for my son Jason's birthday. He and his wife bought a sailboat earlier this year and this is the name of thier boat. The meaning of the name is much to complicated to go into in this post! I guess it was bad ju-ju to change the name...so they kept it! :-)
A couple of months ago I mentioned to my most talented and generous friend Pam (Yorkie Mama) that I wanted to find a new sailboat image for this upcoming birthday. The next thing I knew she had sent this SVG file to me. I LOVED it! I
cut it (using my SCAL program) at 3.5. inches in white and in blue and slightly offset the two (the color of their sailboat). I copied and pasted the name of their boat off one of their boat pictures from Facebook (no easy feat). I temp glued the sailboat to a piece of copy paper (over where I had already printed the name) and printed the name on the boat, (ran the whole thing through the printerÂ…I was pleased that it worked!) I used my large ball stylus on the back of the sailboat and it gave it some nice dimension. The picture is one from Laguna Beach CA. and I took it when we were with out of town friends who treated us to dinner the other night. (It is also a place I took him to when he was young.) I put the photo into a picture program and used the watercolor effects on it and then printed it on computer watercolor paper. Oh! And I found some silhouetted digi seagulls on the internet and added them to my photoÂ… I think I was more pleased with figuring out how to do that, then making the whole card! I must have remade the front of this card 4 timesÂ…working to get my layers (adding the blue and orange in different depths), changing circle size (Spellbinder)and trying to get the sentiment placed correctly. I REALLY like the Quote I found for the outside, which I found searching sailing quotes on the internet.
His birthday is today and he and his wife and father who is visiting just sailed back from Martha's Vineyard tonight. (Their first trip there!) They live in CT and his dad lives in Tenn.
I should have taken a pic of the inside. I punched a rope edge down the side and backed it in the same blue on one side. Then I put Happy Birthday vertically (small die cut letters) in black on the blue on the outside of the rope punch. (a panel about an inch wide) On the white side of the rope punching ,I stamped “Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated” as my inside sentiment.
This card was a joyful undertaking!
Thank you so much for stopping in to take a peek!

Oh my Peggy! I am so blown away by this beautiful card. The personal details are amazing. Thank you so much for sharing the process you went through to create it. Every time I see one of your cards I am challenged to learn something. (so far I have resisted but that's another story!) :-) My husband really enjoyed sailing. He would love this card. I am very intrigued by your photograph and the water colour effect. Now that may just be the thing that kicks me into expanding my skills a little! Meanwhile I will just sit back, sip my coffee, and admire!

Oh, Peggy, this truly was a labor of love that shows it through and through! And, yes, it's important to keep a boat's original name (my husband is a sailor who grew up on the north coast of Long Island and owned his first boat at age . Sailing is in his blood! I love the scene you've used for the inside to show on the front - how clever to use one of their photos! Such a beautiful boat, and it was interesting to read about the Finnish epic, Kalavela. May they have smooth sailing and enjoy the boat for a long time! Your son surely will love this card and cherish it!! Hugs!

From start to finish this was a very well thought out process. I love when it all comes together. Beautiful card Peggy. I'm sure your DS appreciated the thoughtfulness behind the card. I love that you took that extra step to personalize the boat and the photo. Love the quote.... Hugs
