I so wanted to call this card "icky colors" or something but I couldn't do that in good conscience because it has the American flag and a soldier on it. Even if the flag only has 11 stripes and 30 or so stars. Gotta show some respect here.
I was hoping for a cute springy color combo challenge this week since I just got a huge order of cute springy stamps, but alas, I'm stuck with River Rock. Ick. But it kinda sorta works for this card, and I *did* use just about the only two stamp sets that I got that aren't cute and springy. Anyway, the main image is stamped in Basic Black craft, heat embossed with detail clear EP, and colored with an Aquapainter and ink pad lids, except the white--that's colored pencil. Sanded BG in River Rock on RR cardstock, that's about it. On the up side, I know several soldiers who would like to get some mail.
Betty's card that was the inspiration for this challenge was absolutely beautiful. But then, Betty has stamping powers far beyond those of mortal women

Christy dear, me thinks thou dost protest too much -- your card is fantastic and you totally rocked the River Rock (pun intended) and it doesn't look grungy at all -- but, rather, indeed, elegant. The lack of color but for the flag makes it totally elegant. I will confess I desperately resent the suggestion that in order to be patriotic one must in some way support the military industrial complex and so I never buy soldier stamps. But your card is absolutely fantastic -- even to a raving peacenik from the 60s and 70s like me! Mary

you have created an awesome card here! This will be one of SU's classic images, don't you think? I like how you tore the paper for a place to put the sentiment. nicely done
