We are celebrating "friendship" in the F4A challenge this week. The details can be found here.
Thanks to the fabulous Watercolour Wednesday team, I have a huge stash of cardstock backgrounds and journal page backgrounds. None of them worked how they were meant to, so I haven't uploaded them to the WCW challenges, but I am having a lot of fun trying.
I take these "failed" attempts and use them as a base to add left over paint, ink, texture paste, clean stencils, etc, and at some point they find a home.
Gesso has become my new best friend. It makes such a big difference when using gellato crayons, distress inks and sprays. The background of the card came about because I was elbow deep in paint stained stencils and masks on another project. I chucked it on the first thing I saw (a gessoed sheet of A4 cardstock) and by the time I got back to the mask to clean it, it had stuck to the card.
After cleaning up from the other project, I took all the stained baby wipes and scrubbed them into the gessoed/masked sheet of carstock.
I then gave it a quick squirt of Distress Ink spray and a spritz of water, in an attempt to get the mask off....this is the end result and I couldn't be happier. Mind you, I couldn't have done this (or the journal background) if I had purposely tried to.
The little underwater friends are sweet digi images by Molly Harrison. They are coloured with Prismacolour pencils, Zest it pencil blend, colorless blending pencil, gently wiped with walnut stain distress ink before fussy cutting. Stickles and liquid pearls were finally added along with some sequins.
The sentiment reads....Friendship isn't a big thing, it's a million little things.
Thanks for looking dear friends and I hope you get a chance to join in. Stay safe.

Oh Susie, this is absolutely magical. I know what you mean about something morphing into something else; but your morphing is far from accidental as is mine -- your morphing is an art form. The colors and richness of these backgrounds just really sing to heart. And that seaweed stencil on the card is perfect. So much to delight the eye -- swoon. This looks how I imagine an undersea scene with mermaids and fairies would look. The coloring on your images are fabulous and, of course, I had to run right off to Molly's Etsy site to check it out. Beautiful artwork there.
Just so you know, because of you and Nancy (NWilliams6), I have now purchased gesso, paste, gel medium and a ton of stencils. I have tried to buy Zest-it but it isn't available around here right now. That coupled with Vera Lane, I think you cost me as much as you allege I cost you. LOL.
I just love these pieces and I will be back many times to view them. Fabulous.

SO very wonderful- I love everything about these and read and reread your description. I LOVE your beautiful colors in the background and the texture too. And, the digi's are darling and beautifully colored. LOVE this creative project!!!
Wowzers! I am not sure I have words. Your background, textures and coloring just draws me in. You made me smile about not being able to do it if it had been done on purpose but I bet you could! You are a master at backgrounds! The color makes me so happy. I feel like I am getting lost in magic! I keep scrolling back up to take another look.

LOVING these blues, I especially love turquoise and teal colors, and this artwork has lots! I can only admire mixed media work, and there's so much here to admire, especially how you incorporate so many techniques and materials to form a very cohesive whole artwork. I would love to try this type of work someday, but I honestly wouldn't know where to start. However, I love seeing what you create, and it's wonderful, Susie!
Please stay safe and well in your part of the world, especially during these very challenging and unusual times.
