Here is the end result. The hardest part of this technique is waiting for it to dry!!! DH and I are going on a 4 month caravan holiday in 9 days time (not that I am counting). I am taking lots of stamped images to colour so hopefully this background will become a village by the time I get back.
EDIT: I have removed the 'before' upload as it isn't a finished project. This canvas isn't really finished yet, but I figure it could be considered a weird piece of wall art LOL.
I followed Lydia's cling wrap background technique, first sprinkling Brusho powder onto the cling wrap, then blasting it with Ironing Spray (starch - I use an elcheapo version of Fabulon). I then laid an A4 cheap canvas frame onto the cling wrap. Flip it over and scrunch the plastic a bit more - Lydia's video tutorial is great.
Stamperrobin, my sistah from anudder mudder, introduced me to spray starch during the last DTGD. It is silkier and more slippery than water and it doesn't effect the integrity of the colour medium.
This sounds strange, but the spray isn't as 'wet' as water. It works brilliantly with Dylusions Ink Sprays too.

Your bg is genius Susie!! I love the spray starch technique and it works really well with those Brushos! I love the gorgeous colors and can't wait to see your fairy village or WHATEVER you come up with for this!!!
On another note...I really think you need to buy your favorite colors in the new Oxide inks to take along with you to play with!!! (or maybe ALL of the colors so far!)
Yes yes, I think maybe I will try the technique with spray starch and Oxide,...what do you think might happen? Lets see eh?
I am sure going to miss you my friend!! I KNOW you don't always get internet all the places you go!!
Have fun with your sweet Geoff!!! Have a wonderful vaca!

Susie, this is FABULOUS!! Such depth of color and movement - can't wait to see what you do with it! But by the sounds of it, I am going to have to wait a long time - have a grand adventure!

Enjoy your trip. Lovely background it looks like a picture my son sent me of the Northern Lights in Alaska. You will no doubt turn it into something beautiful. I'll be waiting.
