I made this for Toni's fun challenge - check out the WTUI forum and you will find all the details of her challenge HERE.
My base layer is done sort of as ink, spray smash but using alcohol inks and rubbing alcohol.
When I had the idea for this card of making a tic-tac-toe board with sand dollars for the "o" s, I wasn't sure I could do it, because I couldn't think of how to do the sand. I didn't think I could effectively score sandpaper - but as I rummaged through a box I came across this old scrap of DCWV paper
Under it I added a piece of tissue paper stamped with a cheesecloth stamp. Then I stamped the sentiment across both pieces, and added white paint and Stickles to it.
The starfish and sand dollars are IO dies, the little crab is a button. I stitched the sand square with twine, adding some extra "x" factor, since starfish aren't exactly an "x" ;-). To finish I added some square sequins with a seed bead stitched into the centre of each, and edged the whole card with black Stickles.

This is fabulous! It reminds me of the giant checker boards at resorts! The game pieces being sand dollars and star fish - it is even better than any resort I've been to.

I glanced at your card and thought it looked lovely, but then had to go back and take a closer look after reading the description... That cheese cloth stamped piece turned out fantastic! It didn't even register that it was paper, and I was sure your background was a piece of patterned paper. With all the amazing layers and detail, your card has incredible texture and I must admit I'm a little jealous of the loveliness you created.
So, in one word... Wow! You really hit this one right out of the park.
