Sorry I posted this without details earlier. I had seen this cool art piece and decided it would be a good inspiration for the HYCCT Challenge about listening ears. My 11yoDD noticed that I was down last week and all on her own went down and made me a card. I thought a daughter might pick this one to give to her mom to let her know, as my daughter did, that she is there for her mom! Today's sketch was perfect too.
I started by using Grey and White Gesso smeared onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock with a cotton ball. I then inked my image in Basic Black marker to omit the flowers, butterflies and grass. I then used pencil to color and smeared it in with my finger. I also added some shading around her feet. I punched a heart in a post it note and sponged red ink through it to form the balloon and used my marker to add a string. My girl was a bit too large in scale to have the balloon flying off as in the inspiration piece. I used my clear star glitter pen to add highlights to the balloon and give it some gloss. I created a narrow black frame behind the image panel. My base panel is sponged with some Real Red and then Smoky Slate on the edges. I cut a piece of blanket binding for the black vertical piece and some grey burlap for the 2nd. I tried all manner of horizontal pieces, but ended up simply stamping my sentiment on the image panel. I added a white liner with some black rick rack trim for the inside of the card.

Love that image, Gail. I have several similar and they are fun to color. I like the pencil shading on this. Congrats on being a winner in the prize drawing!
