As in Work In Progress - and not a Q in sight, I am afraid. I had what I thought was a brilliant idea this morning, and took one of my paper engineering books into work to plan the card. But it's taken me all afternoon and this is the third version. However, I love the idea of a radio where you can tune in different sentiments, and have stuck a couple of post-it notes in my book reminding me of the pitfalls to avoid next time I try this mechanism. As this is going to a guy, I am sure Charles will understand all about prototypes and won't mind that this is just Radio WIP .
A2 base.
The frame of the radio is faux wood cut with Labels 8 and then embossed with a couple of layers of UTEE, and some brads added down one side.
The next layer is kraft card embossed with SU Square Lattice. I added a mega oval cut from dry wall tape to look a bit like the speaker part of the radio, and cut a slot out near the bottom. The sentiments were stamped on white card and layered behind the slot and the pulley mechanism. I used Banner Basics 2 to create my little red pointer, and LOTS of foam tape to assemble the whole thing and still have all the insides working freely. The little red tab now runs freely along the whole slot, so you can "tune in" to any of the sentiments.
In my book (The Elements of Pop Up, Carter & Diaz) this mechanism is described as a pull-tab with a pulley. Unfortunately it's not one of the mechanisms you can totally de-construct, hence the whole afternoon spent on working it out. I'm thinking something like this could make a good anniversary card for DH .

Dear Sabrina,
We are so touched by this fabulous card. This is so wonderfully creative, you put tons of work into it - love how you did the speaker. And you made it interactive, how fun! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
