It was one year ago today that our precious golden retriever puppy, Winter, lost her battle with a rare and aggressive cancer that appeared seemingly out of nowhere. She was just 14 months old.
Winter joined our family in the midst of a fierce January blizzard, and she loved the snow, hence her name. But in the summer, she also enjoyed chomping on the flowers in my garden. I made this piece to honor her memory. She was deeply loved and is sorely missed.
The large sculpted rose is cut out of 6 layers. The little pink rosebud is a real dried rose, embedded in a thick layer of Glassy Glaze over the sentiment which reads, *Memory is the power to gather roses in winter.* The golden retriever head and the small roses are Polyshrink. Everything is popped up on Dimensionals. The layout is for the Sketch Challege 108.

Thanks for looking.

Dear Maddy,
I can feel your heartache and sorrow about your Winter little puppy and each year you will remember Winter because we never forget our Goldens. This tribute to such a special Golden puppy is so wonderful and I know she is seeing this from the Rainbow Bridge in Dog Heaven. They are so dear and such treasures to us. They bring us so much laughter and happiness and we can never repay them. Their antics, funny ways and expressions cannot be described but have to be seen in person to fully appreciate. It is one of the hardest thing to lose a dog. . . a special Golden. . . because they are all so innocent and loving no matter what.

A rose in winter. Indeed, our sweet dogs are roses to enjoy all year round, but especially when winter seems to overwhelm us. Sweet little Winter, I will always remember you, a special flower in Madeline's garden.

Wow, Maddie! This is a gorgeous card! I'll bet the whole time you were creating it, you were thinking of your puppy Winter. How sad to see him die from cancer and know that you couldn't do a thing to help him. The card makes a wonderful rememberance of him.
Hugs,
Sue
Oh Maddy... This is so lovely and almost as pretty as Winter herself. I know you'll take that as the compliment it's supposed to be. It's a beautiful tribute to a sweet golden angel. Love, Shelley

Very beautiful card, I like the large rose and gold cording you embellished with. Most of all I loved reading your story of Winter and it brought back memories of the two dogs (who thought they were peoples) that we had to give up! Very hard to let go but so worth the time we shared with them. Smiles! And always share the memories!

Gorgeous card and memorial for Winter! I love how you glazed the real dried rose for a keepsake. Just awesome. I lost my beloved baby boy (a Sheltie) 10 years ago, and I still miss him!
