My youngest son, and youngest of my four children, was quite the musician during his school years. This birthday card for him commemorates his musical talent! But, I also wanted to enter it into several SCS challenges as well.
This is my final card for the Alphabet Challenge, Round 7, and it is for Letter N, along with the double challenge of "not feminine." One of the many, many styles of jazz that my son played in the jazz band was Nu-Jazz, which became popular in the 1990s, and was one that he thoroughly enjoyed. This card is all about the Nu-Jazz style...thus fits Letter N.
Before beginning, I checked out the Inspiration Challenge, and it, along with the Mix-Ability Challenge led me to my card's color scheme. The Inspiration Challenge asked that you check out the "Design Seeds" website for inspiration. I found the "coffee hues" to be the perfect color scheme for my card. Take a look at the color scheme link: https://www.design-seeds.com/seasons.../coffee-hues1/.
Also, the Mix-Ability Challenge was asking for a card with the theme "Black, White, and Read All Over!" Most are interpreting that to be using the colors black, white, and red in your card, which fits my card very well!
I looked at the Featured Stamper's (stampinrachel) Gallery and got an idea from one of Rachel's cards on using the inchie style for my musical jazz card. This is a link to Rachel's card: Winter Thank You by stampinrachel at Splitcoaststampers. I borrowed her layout, changing it up a bit with more layers on my card and to each of the inchie-like squares, plus popping the squares up off the base. I placed my sentiment at the bottom, as in Rachel's card, but used a popped-up, layered fishtail flag instead of stamping it directly onto the base. Also, added a button and baker's twine and no ribbon.

You have become quite the challenge queen, Carlene. Love this very personalized card for your son. Musical talent is something I complete lack, but totally admire! Love the shading and the card is very well done.
